Description
The closer for my Charlotte Chargers 2008 team, Vermilyea is an update on last year's. I wanted him to be good, but not dominant; have only a 93mph fastball and poor Release helped that out. However, I used Vermilyea's creation as an opportunity to focus almost exclusively on Patty's arc, landing some decent skills (Doctor K, Good Delivery, Gyroball). He is my first and only gyroball pitcher (in either MLBPP game).
Vermilyea is most likely going to start as the team's closer. His unique spin on the fastball, combined with his 2-seamer and palmball, should be enough to fool most hitters. He has some weaknesses - average control, 93mph top speed, and runners get a good read on him from first - but his ability to get a timely strikeout and keep hitters off balance in the clutch should keep him around.
