It's my understanding that receiving the "poor communicator" message decreases your fate cards by one, meaning that if you have "Worldly" (5 fate cards) you're reduced back to a "neutral" status and your fate cards are back to normal (4 cards). If you are already at a "neutral" status (again, 4 cards) you're given "Clumsiness" (cards reduced to 3). As far as I've been able to tell these changes are definite and there is no chance involved. Thus, if you were at a neutral state and received the poor communicator message you would ALWAYS be given Clumsiness. I'm not 100% on this and need confirmation. Anyone know for sure? --Mrsims31 05:16, 16 March 2008 (CDT)

Very true. The only thing I don't know is what happens if you already have worldly - I've never tried. The games weird in that some abilities have multiple names. For example, Hit for Avg (from Legends book) is contact hitter, and there's probably others. As far as I know poor communicator = clumsiness, and polished socializer = worldly. --J-Gao 05:59, 16 March 2008 (CDT)
I think you go from Worldly (5 cards) to Clumsy (3 cards) in one go and vice versa. I haven't had it happen any other way. I second the notion that the messages often refer to abilities and conditions in alternate names. The names used in the messages seem like a working translation that never got fixed. For example when you get Walk-off Hitter the message says "Now a Clutch Hitter". I think it makes sense if they scrapped that to avoid confusion after they decided to use "Clutch" for the 5 scale ability that applies to RISP situations.--Odawali 23:32, 18 March 2008 (CDT)
