A tremendous slugger drafted out of college, Rick Cunnane has the ability to hit the ball very far. Unfortunately that is his main strength, as hitting, fielding, speed, and just about every other aspect of his game is sub-par. The Chargers envisioned him as a righty pinch-hitter, DH, and depth at three positions.
Description
This is a Success Mode backup 1B, LF, and 3B for my custom team, the Charlotte Chargers. He is based on a number of real-life guys, from Adam Dunn and Wily Mo Pena to any other all-slug, no-other-tools guys. I got an incredible amount of special abilities, and despite 3 injuries still had plenty of points to make him what I wanted. Cunnane got a homer in just about every AA to AAA game he played in, usually the 3-run variety - including his FIRST AA game! I've found that using the Rookie's Charm and pumping power up to 80 for the first games help.
Cunnane can smack the leather off the ball in terms of raw power, but has not harnessed it effectively. He is also a liability on the field, which will limit him to games only in which raw slugging is needed, or the DH rule is used. He has a decent arm from the outfield, and a good head for the game, especially in the batter's box, and can get that big hit when needed most. It's up to the Charlotte coaches how and when to best utilize his skillset.
