There are 9 positions in baseball:
- A Catcher (C) who catches throws from the Pitcher (P).
- Three outfield (OF) positions: Left Field (LF), Center Field (CF), and Right Field (RF).
- Four infield (IF) positions: First Base (1B), Second Base (2B), Third Base (3B), and Shortstop (SS).
The MLB players in Season Mode have as many as three listed positions. (34 have three positions in MLBPP 2007.)
Teams in the American League will also have a Designated Hitter (DH) who bats in place of the pitcher in the batting lineup. National League teams can designate one during interleague play in American League ballparks.
