Sacramento Slayers 8 - Oklahoma City Ham Bones 7

SUMMARY: The Slayers win another barnburner to sweep the Ham Bones. It was a pitchers' duel at first, with a 2-1 score before the top of the 6th inning. Mike Morse hit a 3-run home run to break the lead open to 5-1, sending Ham Bones ace Matthew Bacon to the showers. Jurrjens was cruising at that point, so it looked to be a sure victory. But in the bottom half of the inning, the Ham Bones' bats came alive. Ralph Marcus and Martin Baez led off the inning with a single and a double, subsequently. First baseman Freddy Parra then doubled them home to make it 5-3. Christopher Leon then topped that off with a game-tying 2-run home run over the left-center field wall to tie the game up and knock Jurrjens out of the game. Not much happened after that until the top of the 9th, when Kurt Suzuki sent one over the center field wall to give the Slayers a 7-5 lead. In the bottom of the 9th, Brian Wilson retired the first two batters of the inning. Center fielder Carl Lloyd reached on a controversial infield single, as it looked like he was out on the play. The play would have ended the game, and the call backfired on the Slayers quickly. The next batter, pinch hitter Colby Crandall, hit a Wilson mistake pitch over the fence to tie the game up at 7. We fast-forward to the top of the 11th inning now. Relief pitcher Brandon League started a 2-out rally with a bloop single into right field. Jeff Francoeur walked to put League in scoring position. With runners on first and second, catcher Kurt Suzuki came through in the clutch again for an RBI bloop single into right center field, scoring League. Brandon League closed out the 11th inning by striking out pinch hitter Theo Dawkins, earning the win.

These are the most complete game recaps in a log I've ever seen.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (3/31 - 4/6) ANNOUNCED

For the American League, the players of the week are:

Hatchlings SP Jameel Cook, who went 2-0, with a 0.00 ERA and 27 Ks.
Gorillas 2B Pedro Lima, who hit .577, with 5 HRs and 19 RBI.

Now for the National League, as we see a pair of teammates take the honors:

Felines SS Tyler Smith, who hit .542, with 4 HR and 19 RBI.
Felines LF Alfredo Ortiz, who hit .583, with 4 HR and 15 RBI.

The Slayers organization is a tad bit stunned that third baseman Jose Bautista did not take the honors this week, but Smith and Ortiz both deserved the award. Congratulations to all the winners.

I want to make this as detailed as possible. I worked quite hard on it, after all. ;)

UPCOMING SERIES

Sacramento Slayers (4-2) vs Vancouver Whalers (3-4)

The Slayers are on a roll after sweeping the Oklahoma City Ham Bones at their home ballpark. The Slayers head back to Panpaka for their first home series, which will be against divisional rival Vancouver Whalers. Here are the Whalers players to watch out for in the upcoming series:

Bryan Snyder, 1B, #14, R/L, 24 years old
3 TRJ, D CON, D PWR, E RUN SPD, F ARM STR, C FLD, D E RES
GM REPORT: The young first baseman is the Whalers' hottest hitter right now, hitting .409 with 1 HR and 11 RBIs. His skills don't suggest he can keep up the hot streak for long, and hopefully the Slayers can be the ones to cool him off a bit.

Matthew Huff, RF, #37, L/R, 37 years old
3 TRJ, D CON, C PWR, E RUN SPD, D ARM STR, E FLD, C E RES
GM REPORT: The Slayers had a bit of trouble getting pinch hitters out in the series against the Ham Bones. Huff is better than any pinch hitter the Ham Bones had. Look for him to deliver some crucial hits in the series, that is if he actually gets some at-bats during the series. He can hit to all fields and can especially hit lefties.

Jason Bonds, SP, #45, R/R, 32 years old
95 TOP SPD, C CTRL, A STAM, SLD 4, CHG 2, SNK 3
GM REPORT: Bonds will be the best starting pitcher the Whalers send out this series. He doesn't have the greatest stuff in the world, but he manages to get strikeouts, and he has good life on his fastball. He does struggle against lefties, and he loses his command after base hits and with runners on second. He's also a flyball pitcher, but he does play in a park where flyball pitchers can thrive.

PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUP:

Game 1: A. Sanchez (0-1, 13.50) vs. J. Bonds (0-1, 10.50)
Game 2: S. Marcum (0-1, 13.50) vs. Kai Davis (95 TOP SPD, E CTRL, A STAM, SLD 4, CHG 2; 0-1, 12.60)
Game 3: C.J. Wilson (1-0, 3.00) vs. Owen Fitzgerald (90 TOP SPD, E CTRL, B STAM, SPLT 2, CB 1; 0-1; 5.06)

The Whalers are less talented than the Slayers are, but they did win a series against the Gamblers, something the Slayers can't say they've done... yet.

Sacramento Slayers 3 - Vancouver Whalers 0

SUMMARY: The Slayers extend their winning streak to 4 games with a win over the Whalers in their home opener. Jose Bautista belted a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the first off of Jason Bonds, and that one run was the only run they would need, as Anibal Sanchez bounced back from a rough opening start to shut down the Whalers for 7 innings. Brian Wilson got himself into another jam with runners on the corners, 2 out, and the tying run on base, but he got left fielder Charlie Serrano to ground out to Bautista to end the game.

lol.

As a note, I've decided to bump CPU pitching, fielding, and baserunning up to Powerful difficulty. Let's see how it plays out.

What's the hardest setting for the sweetspot cursor again? I'm trying to get more pitchers' duels going, and have just set the pitch speed level to fast.

The one with no lock-on makes it the hardest, that's what I use.

It makes it much more rewarding when you get a solid hit.
