How do you import 2007 characters?

According to all the pre-release hype, we're supposed to be able to import our custom characters from 2007 into the 2008 game, along with Miis. I don't care about importing my Miis, but can anyone talk me through the process for importing custom characters? Can't seem to figure it out. Thanks.

you can't bring characters over from 2007.

I'm pretty sure it's not possible. Some people tried it and they don't work with this game, I don't remember ever hearing that we were supposed to be allowed to use the success mode characters from last years game, so I don't know where you hear that.
