He has never said stuff like this before though, at least that I can remember. I probably wouldn't know as well as some of the Red Sox fans on this board however.

Disregard, double post because of the board having DB issues.

The Sox will just wait it out and not pick up his option for '09. There is no way they can keep up with the Rays or Yankees if they ship away his bat this late into the season, regardless of what they get in return -- which would likely be something equal to about thirty cents on the dollar if they try and piece something together this close to the deadline. Just let Manny be Manny for another three months and don't pick up his $20M option for next year. That will give them all off-season to try and swing a deal with someone to at least pick up a quality bat to play left, instead of the very small window they have for this season.

Yeah, it's pretty common for Manny to say he wants to be traded or become a free agent. It usually comes up around the trade deadline or at the end of the season. I guess the only thing different this time around is that the Sox are fresh off a world series win.

New favorite team CHICAGO WHITE SOX. Finally Junior is on a winning team. Too bad they're coming out of the AL with the Angels being ridiculous.

What is up with the Angels? 27 games over .500?! That's ridiculous. Good thing my Cubs are 20 games over .500.

How 'bout Jim Edmonds? Two homers today! Solo in the 3rd and Granny in the 4th! =D

Well...Welcome to So Cal Manny. I figured the whole thing would just blow over like it always did.

Eating crow and the taste is bitter indeed.

Jeez, one minute they're saying Manny is going to Florida, and all of a sudden, SURPRISE! He's going to LA.

Very happy with the Manny trade from a Dodgers perspective, definitely a nice surprise as I returned from my lunch break. Although I like Laroche, I'd much rather give him up than someone like a Matt Kemp.

I wonder if being with his brother will help Andy Laroche...if he is going to stay on the MLB team, and Adam is on the DL, but probably isn't on a rehab assignment right now so he'll be in the clubhouse with Andy.

I hope Manny the Moody Mammoth has left his Manny-ness in New England... A tussle with Jeff Kent or Andruw Jones isn't going to be good (although, breaking Jones' legs or something might let the Dodgers out of his busted contract).

I would have rather have borrowed Greg Maddox from the Padres, a 6 man rotation would help Kuroda pitch better on consecutive outings...

Unfortunatly this means less at bats for Eithier and Kemp.

im very glad to see manny in dodger blue. garciaparra was actually on the dodger pregame show before today's game (he was a team mate in boston) and said nothing but good things: "he's great person, a good sense of humor, extremely quiet, doesn't want a whole heck of alot of attention."

the media distorts his image, magnifies negative things, and in general puts him on "blast" (as they do to a ton of celebrites and famous ppl, its their job to exagerate and sensationalize just about everything). of course i don't know him personally but he seems like a cool guy, nothing like a dennis rodman type character. regarding the tussels hes had with boston team mates and management, any calm mannered guy can lose his cool when someone's pushing your buttons especially from guys that you see day after day after day. im sure everyone can relate to this when dealing with idiots on the job.

regarding "mercenary" maddux, yes he is a future hall of famer but he's definitely a cold blooded dude to jump ship from L.A. to S.D. a few seasons back. no one likes traitors going to rival teams, then to jump back to L.A. in the middle of a pennant race? we dont need him and we have a ton of farm system talent that can get the job done. he can finish his career in S.D. picking up a solitary win every 14 starts for all i care!

anyway, you won't see this dodger fan complaining that manny's in the lineup. his dreadlocks, quiet demeanor, and relentless hustle will get a warm welcome on friday night.

it's fittin' to be an exciting conclusion of the 08 season!

I'm sure it gets Andruw Jones way less AB's, he's now batting something like .163, I don't care how much money I'm paying a guy, if he's htting that bad why would we play him in front of other people. Someone on sportscenter said it best, "now batting the former Major Leaguer Andruw Jones".
