You make me tempted to do that with my A's franchise....

Coming up in a few minutes: "Best and Worst." If you don't read this, you won't find out whether Johan Santana is a Best or a Worst. And that's all that matters, right?

I'm going to do a new segment called "Best and Worst," where I highlight the best and worst around the league. I'll do one every now and again.

Best...

...teams (less than 5 GB of the best team in baseball)

Yankees.....38-23
Mets..........37-23
Brewers.....37-23
Blue Jays...37-24
Phillies.......36-25
Twins........34-26
Tigers........33-27

...pitchers

J. Santana: 77 IP, 5-3, 1.75 ERA
Pettitte: 68.2 IP, 7-2, 2.75 ERA
Gagne: 27.1 IP, 1-0, 0.99 ERA, 18-18 SVO

...hitters

Posada: .383, 15 HR, 64 RBI, .512 OBP
Delgado: .379, 16 HR, 56 RBI
A. Rodriguez: .320, 17 HR, 66 RBI

Worst...

...teams

(The worst team is at the top. "GA" stands for "games ahead" as opposed to "games back." If it seems like a lot of bad teams... it is.)

Red Sox...........24-38 (Cellar)
Athletics...........24-36 (1 GA)
Pirates..............25-35 (2 GA)
Giants..............25-35 (2 GA)
Diamondbacks...25-35 (2 GA)
Indians.............25-35 (2 GA)
Mariners...........26-34 (3 GA)

...pitchers

Webb: 62 IP, 2-7, 9.15 ERA
Looper: 54.2, 0-8, 8.07, 0.95 K/BB
Marquis: 63.1, 2-6, 7.11, 0.85 K/BB

...hitters

Ibanez: .181
Hamilton: .194, 2 HR, 23 RBI (did I mention he leads the league in errors with 11?)
Broussard: .520 OPS, .213, 0 HR, 2 RBI

Twins (34-26) vs Orioles (29-31)

Baker, Twins Crushed By O's

MINNESOTA—Justin Morneau hit two home runs for three RBI. He would need about…oh, eight more to help the Twins come back from a 13-4 domination from the Orioles. Everything from pitching to hitting to fielding…even baserunning was sloppy.

W: Loewen (3-4)
L: S. Baker (4-6)
MVP: Payton
HR: Morneau (11, 12)

MIN

S. Baker (L): 3+ IP, 6 R, 4 ER, 7 H, 7 Ks, 2 BB
Morneau: 3-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI, K
Guerrier: 2/3 IP, 4 R, 4 H, K
Rincon: 2 2/3 IP, 3 R, 5 H, K

BAL

Loewen (W): 5 IP, 4 R, 13 H, K, BB
L. Scott: 2-3, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, R, K
Mora: 1-6, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 K
Huff: 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, K

Twins Make Call Ups

MINNESOTA—The Twins have sent down tired bullpen arms Juan Rincon and Jesse Crain. Bobby Korecky and Michael O'Connor have been called up.

All-Star Update

MINNESOTA—Besides Hideki Matsui (NYY) taking over the top spot in DH, the All-Star ballot remains the same.

Up next: the 2008 DRAFT!!!

Twins Draft Results

MINNESOTA—The Twins picked 14th this year, and streched that pick for all it was worth, choosing two potential starting pitchers in Tolar and Cannizaro. Both Prospects need much more seasoning in the minors, but if it all goes well, we may be hearing from them in a season or two. Here is the bio on our new rookies:

Tolar

B/T R/R
Stamina: C (99)
Control: E (114)
Top Speed: 89 MPH
Right: Level 1 Slider
Down: Level 3 Forkball

Cannizaro

B/T S/L
Stamina: C (86)
Control: D (121)
Top Speed: 95 MPH
Left: Level 2 Slider
Down-Left: Level 2 Curveball

What are your thoughts? Good draft? Bad draft? What should our prospects work on? Stamina? Control? Top speed? Breaking ball? Technique?

My mom's advice: "They need seasoning. Give them a little 'BAM!' so they kick it up a notch."

We went to an Emeril Lagasse book signing the other day. Please forgive us.

Cannizaro could be a really nice reliever, I would have him work on his curve ball and then after that becomes a 3, work on his slider.

Very good draft. With Tolar, work on his top speed, and with Cannizaro, work on breaking balls.

Sounds good. I'll have them work on it in the morning.
