Ha! Typical Mets. I'm happy for the Angels, they save $2M and also obtain an OK pitcher. Matthews is replacement level. He doesn't belong on a major league team, except the Mets. :)

Not really. He's not any better than some of the Mets' minor league outfielders, or a cheap free agent outfielder. Instead, they pay $2 M and a pitcher for an easily replaceable player.

There are still free agents out there, goods ones too. Why are there any teams getting them?

Theres Orlando Hudson, Erik Bedrek, Ben Sheets. Why are the teams not making a move.

Yeah, but there's a trade-off to him. If we platoon him with Fukudome, he gets 5 million dollars. If we limit him to pinch hitting, he only gets 3 million. Also, I think we need another bench bat for when he has to start for when anyone's injured. Maybe that could be Chad Tracy? :|

The Mets officially signed veteran Japanese left-hander Hisanori Takahashi, first baseman Mike Jacobs and catcher Shawn Riggans to Minor League contracts on Thursday.

He spent his entire career with the Yomiuri Giants. A few of his seasons were good (2002, 2007, 2009), the rest were mediocre. He doesn't throw hard, has five pitches that he'll throw in any count, including a plus screwball. He wants to be a starter, as he was in Japan, but would probably make more sense as a reliever here if he gets called up. He wouldn't be a lefty specialist though -- he had a better BAA for RH batters.
