What does that mean?

The Cubs need to do SOMETHING. We sucked, and now they can't sign anybody to help?

I think it's probably time for the Cubs to rebuild. They have so many holes it would be impossible to fill them all in one offseason. Then again, they don't really have any good pieces to trade for prospects...

I thought you were a Yankees fan. Aren't you forgetting Hideki Matsui?

How about Lee, Aramis, Lilly (I don't think Lilly has a no trade clause does he?), Zambrano, Dempster, there are probably a few more I don't know right now.

Silva really doesn't appeal to me. Wouldn't you guys rather have Luis Castillo?

Anyway, I think this is a great deal for the Mariners. That Zduiencik fellow is a genius.

I agree. Bradley is still a good player, and based on production alone is well worth his contract. Silva, however, is practically a replacement level pitcher. The Cubs aren't really trimming payroll, either. As long as Seattle doesn't go too hard on Bradley, I think this trade will turn out to be a huge steal for the Mariners.

Hey guys, I just wrote an article about how the Mets can sign Jason Bay and build a dynasty in the process, I spent about an hour and a half writing it and I think it is very good. I would really appreciate it if you read it and told me what you think.

Thanks.

It's a little optimistic and it's a bit of a stretch, but all of it is definitely a possibilty. Very nice.

Ok here are a few points here.

1) Your first paragraph is all about making money and crap. Chances are that as long as te Yankees and phillies are there the mets don't make too much. Also, it is kinda statin the obvious with alot of redundent statements. Obviously, you are pretty shallow minded. Omar does not have the toughest job. It is ALL GMs jobs to make a dynasty and maintain the fanbase. Furthermore, with the money they are supplied, signing free agents and making a dynasty hard isn't too difficult. Next, Bay rejecting a 60 mil/4 year offer from the redsox stats he doesn't want to play for them anymore. If you offer him 1 mil more per year, you think he would accept it? This means that Bay get paid 1 year more for playing in a huge ballpark over playing for the red sox.

2) red sox will not sign him for the reason that they are almost close to the 170mil mark and signing bay would push them over. Them trading for Gonzalez is highly unlikely in th sense that buchloz is no longer really considered a prospect and ellsbury isn't really appealing for a guy that hit 40 homers.

3) the mets will never trade for gonzalez as their farm system is not as good as the red sox and they have no young major leaguer ready unlike ellsbury. Though that might be a dream lineup, the mets will break the bank for that and still have reyes to worry about next year.

Sorry but i feel I just wasted my time reading this and you wasted your time typing this. Marry christmas!

(1) There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY the Padres would accept a deal of Fernando Martinez, Daniel Murphy, Jon Niese, and Juerys Familia.
Ellsbury >>> Martinez in that he is already a proven player and one of the top 10 centerfielders in baseball. Ellsbury is just as good as Martinez will be in his prime.
Buchholz >>> Niese same as above.
Daniel Murphy is at best a league average hitter, and often much worse. His fielding is below average, which kind of cancels out his versatility (especially compared to Kotchman, who is one of the best defensive 1B in baseball.) Murphy is more of a AAAA player.
And Juerys Familia... I've never even heard of him.

Since A-Gone is a San Diego icon and has an extremely favorable contract, there is a lot of pressure on Jed Hoyer (Padres GM) to get a good package for him, or not trade him at all. It is clear that they will have to be blown away to accept a trade for Gonzalez. The trade described in your post clearly falls short of this. I doubt that the Padres would accept a deal even if you threw in all of the other "top" prospects described in your post.

(2) The Red Sox do not want to sign Bay. They have no need for him. So far, the only major player in the Bay sweepstakes is the Mets, with a few other assorted teams (Giants, Cardinals if they don't get Holliday, etc) in it.

(3) In my opinion, the best way for the Mets to compete (not that it will ever happen  ) is to (A) fire Omar Minaya and (B) rebuild the team right now. Even if everything in your post worked out perfectly, the lineup you have still isn't jaw-dropping. It's perhaps comparable to the Phillies, who happen to have better defense, better pitching, better team happiness, better medical staff, and a better farm system. And that's the best-case scenario. There is no way the Mets can turn a team around that quickly.
If the Mets trade everyone except Wright, Reyes, and Santana for prospects, they'll be able to hoard cash in preparation for the 2010-2011 offseason, where many superstars will be available, and they'll still have a good core to build around.

(4) You knew this was coming...
The Mets suck. :P
