The Pirates won opening day first the first time in the last 3 years in 10 innings thanks to 2 of our new players, Werth and Cook. The Pirates scored off of Astros ace Roy Oswalt in the 1st with an RBI groundout from Garrett Jones but Oswalt would shut them down the rest of the way. Cook was dominant but Pence didn't think so when he hit a homerun onto the train tracks in left field to tie it in the 6th. The Pirates used small ball in the 10th when McCutchen got a leadoff single, stole second and made it to third on Fontenot groundout. Jayson Werth, who made a great impression on the team drove in McCutchen with a sacrifice fly to center for the 2-1 lead. Hanrahan got into a little trouble in the 10th when with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got Bourn to ground out to preserve the opening day victory in Minute Maid Park.

The Pirates have been red-hot to start the season and they improved to 5-0 this year with a 4-3 win. Anibal Sanchez got into trouble in the first and the Reds were able to take a 2-0 first inning lead. But that didn't last long as Ikari connected for a 2 run homerun to tie it and 2 batters later, Ronny Cedeno broke an 0-12 season start with a solo homerun for the 3-2 lead. Hanrahan came into the game in the 9th with a 2 run lead when Phillips launched a solo 2 out homerun to make it a 1 run game but Hanrahan caught Rolen looking on a fastball to end the game.

After starting off 6-0, the Pirates have lost the first two in a 3 game set in Wrigley Field. The Cubs tagged Duke for 4 runs in 5 innings thanks to homeruns by Soto and Ramirez which made it 4-0 early. The Cubs offense was able to score a run off of Meek and Bradford to take a 6-0 lead. Zambrano came into the game with a 1.00 ERA and showed why tossing 6 innings and only giving up 1 run and that Mike Fontenot's 3rd homerun of the year which leads the Pirates.

does Travis Buck or Alfredo Amezaga have an agent? If not can I be their agent? (I'll be willing to drop Bradford if necessary)

Pirates win home opener in 11th -- The Pirates just got back from being swept by the Cubs and were home for the first time in 2010. The Pirates manufactured a run when the 1-19 Cedeno stole second, was bunted to third and drove in by 1 of 2 Andrew McCutchen's doubles and the Pirates would tack on another in the 5th. But the Reds got to Maholm in the 6th when Bruce led off with a homerun and an RBI double by Brandon Phillips tied it. Owings would go 9 innings this game but was no part of the decision as in the 11th, Jayson Werth hit what looked like the walk-off homerun but ended up being a wall-ball double by Garrett Jones would send everyone home happy with an RBI single in the 11th off of Homer Bailey.

The Pirates and Astros are going in completely different directions as the Pirates have now won 7 straight after being swept by the Cubs. The Astros come into today with the most runs allowed in the MLB at 100 and didn't help that today. The Pirates got all over Brandon Backe scoring 3 runs in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd inning. Ikari hit 2 homeruns today and continues to be the teams hottest hitter hitting over .350 with 4 homeruns. Maholm quieted the Astro bats to 1 run in 8 innings to get his first win of 2010. The next telecast will be vs the Diamondbacks on the 27th this month.

Yay, Ikari!

Ikari, Ruggiano, and Duke love how hot this team has been. They hope that finally they can be in the postseason this year.

The Pirates continue to be hot after a 4-2 win over the NL West leading Diamondbacks. The Pirates got offense from Garrett Jones who hit a 2 run double in the 3rd to make it 2-0 early and it just one of the few good hits Jones has had this season as he's shocked everyone this year hitting .163 with no homeruns so far. The Pirates got a pinch hit homerun from Pearce in the 6th to make it a 3-1 game but Eric Byrnes would also come off the bench to make it a 1 run game once more. Hanahan who has a high 5.54 ERA but is 9/9 for saves got the final 4 outs for a 4-2 win over the D-Backs. Anibal Sanchez improved to 4-0 this season with a sparkling ERA which was all part off a great month
