If you're a BoSox fan and you aren't rooting for the Yankees, you're an idiot. The division for the Sox is a pipe dream right now. You guys needed the Yankees to sweep the Rangers.

An idiot? I don't think any red sox fan wants to see the Yankees win when they're in first place. 6 games behind is very tough with the Yankees and there are 37 games left, only 3 against the yankees. I could really care less about the rangers. Yes they're 1.5 behind and have a good team but it'll end up going down to Tampa bay and Boston for wild card and I think alot of people know that. We won that game so it makes no difference, I want put some focus on the division but if we lost then I'd want the Yankees to win, right now it's hopeless but we're not 10 out

and here's the schedule for both teams:

Red Sox:

37 games left
20 home games
6 Vs TB
6 Vs CHW
3 Vs LAA
3 Vs NYY
5 Vs BAL
6 Vs TOR
4 Vs KC
4 Vs CLE

Not easy but not impossible. We can easily beat the royals, indians, blue jays, orioles and even the white sox. We would need to do well against the other ones which is hard but we importantly need to beat the Yankees if we want any chance of the division

Yankees:
37 games left
21 home games

it's too much to do there's but Tampa bay and Boston are their only true competetion

But don't call me an idiot for rooting against the Yankees, the division is not a pure lock yet. The Yankees are in complete control but they haven't won it yet

I have a tiny little feeling that the White Sox and Red Sox series might decide the Wild Card for good...Peavy *Cough* vs Fat-bathia *cought* soon. Tampa Bay are not going to win with the crappy starting pitching they get. No matter how good their running game is, it always comes down to pitching. Yankees are going to do the Red Sox a favor and themselves a favor too. Playing the Rangers in the 1st round is worse than the Tigers the rate they are playing (Sorry DNK). This series is very important for the Red Sox. I doubt the Rangers will be able to have their starters match up with the hitters of the Yankees. I think Pettitte and someone else is going the next 2 games. They are going to win it with a fully rested bullpen. To be honest with you, the Wild Card is the Red Sox to lose. At Fenway, they take advantage of the Big Monster and will outpitch and outslug the opponent except the Yankees on some occasions. 20 games is alot and winning 15 or so will do them a great favor. Texas has easy opponents in the A's and Mariners (No offense again) but will die to the Angels.

If the Red Sox don't make the playoffs then that's all their fault and it's definatly there's to lose(wild card) but either way the Yankees make the playoffs

I didn't write this, but this post is right on the money:

Arquimedez Bozo @ SoxProspects wrote:
Updating the math: Sox are 7 back. Assuming they can sweep the Yankees in their three remaining games...

If the Yankees play just below .500 ball in their other 35 games (17-18), the Sox would have to go 21-14 in their non-Yankee games just to tie. Of course, compared to what the Rockies have done, that's nothing, but that's still .600 ball not counting having to sweep the Yankees.

If the Yankees play to their current winning percentage in the other 35 games (22-13), the Sox would have to go 26-9 in their non-Yankee games just to tie. There's no way this team is playing .743 ball the rest of the season.

He's right. There is no way the Red Sox can play above .700 for the rest of the season. Francona is fooling around with your lineup too much. And there is no way the Yankees are going to play below .500. No way.

Jacobye, no offense, I like you a lot, but Red is right. There's no way the Sox will play above .600. Francona keeps taking out our best batters and resting them in important match ups in the middle of a stretch run. And the rotation is a mess... Beckett and Lester are the only good ones right now.

The math is overwhelming and I lost this one.

I was mad about the Yankees crushing us every game now, well not mad but not happy so it kind of gets me to want the Yankees just to lose, for whatever reason I got onto that it's not impossible to win it but I didn't think enough of it

While it seems like the Sox aren't going to win the division, if I was red sox fan I don't think I would ever root for the Yankees to be winning. If you look at it this way, the Sox have won their last 7 of 8 at home against the Chi Sox, lets say they finish the sweep, I would rather have the Yankees lose today so we can gain a game, then have the Rangers win the finale and gain a half a game in the wild card. Really, whether the Rangers win or the Yankees win, plus the Sox win it's beneficial regardless of how far out they are in the division.

Still though, I expect the Yankees to win the AL East, barring an incredible comeback by the Sox and Rays and a bit of stumble by the Yankees (look at the Rockies).

The Yankees do not have a good bullpen, which is ultimately what decides how you do at this time of year. That is why the Mets collapsed the last two years, they have a horrible bullpen and it gave in during September. I can see the same happening for the Yankees if they are not careful.

No surprise here:

One of the PTBNL is Chris Carter in the Wagner deal.

Chris Carter? I like his bat but the scouts don't like his glove but Wagner better be pretty healthy if we gave up 2 players including Carter

Carter is not going to help the Mets. We have Murphy, Evans, Davis, Duda, and probably a kajillion other first baseman who are just about ready for the bigs. Chris Carter is practically a clone of Nick Evans.

Carter won't make anything of himself. Omar is a moron for thinking Carter + someone who's not one of your brilliant pitching prospects, is worth more than two picks in the draft.

Carter's defense is gonna look bad very fast in that huge Citi Field outfield. I like this deal actually
