However the Reds have also considered doing that as well.

I don't exactly think this is a good idea. The reason his numbers look so good right now is because he is still a suprise for pitchers, if he is an everyday guy he will become predictable and his numbers will drop dramatically.

That's a good point. I don't think they should either.

Regarding the topic subject, Sonnanstine isn't the first pitcher to bat in an AL game. It's rare, but it has happened before.

As for Micah Owings, he never played first base in a major league game, much less start.

The Designated Hitter usually replaces the pitcher in an AL game, but if you have a good hitting pitcher, the DH can replace for example your second baseman. The second baseman would still field, he just wouldn't hit.

I never said he started at 1st base.

But yes he has started a game batting in the 8th hole for the D-Backs.

That is incorrect. The DH is only for the pitcher. It's MLB rule 6.10.

You did, quite clearly, in response to Me_and_Lucy: "No, it was the D-Backs that did start him at 1st a couple times and wanted to do that."

fair enough, but he has started at 1st. If it wasn't the Majors then it was college. I'm quite certain.

yeh, Sonnanstine's probably the first this year, but hardly the first ever. You can count on one or two AL managers to make this mistake every now and then (i.e. I recall back when he was with the Indians, Charles Nagy had to hit for himself once due to a Manny moment-Manny took his position at right. problem was, he was supposed to be the DH...thus Nagy took a couple ABs...but I digress, some of yall youngbloods probably don't even remember Nagy  )

The only way I remember him was because of the walk-off single in game 7 of the 1997 world series off of him. I thought the first letter of his name was an "m" at first but then I checked and it was Nagy

If I am not wrong
I think Josh Beckett has the highest contact in power pros 08 among pitchers..
am I right?

You could do a search for pitchers and say contact greater than ___.

Most pitchers have G-D contact.
