This is a common misconception. Apart from being actually illegal from a law enforcement point of view, steroids were specifically banned as far back as 1991, when Fay Vincent issued a memo stating such. MLB couldn't negotiate a testing policy with the union, so the memo was generally ignored. Bud Selig reissued the same memo in 1997, but again no effective policy could be instituted.

In 2001, mandatory random testing was implemented on the minor league level, though only for players not on a 40-man roster.

In 2002, the CBA was amended before it expired to implement testing on the major league level in 2003, but only as a survey to determine whether mandatory testing was required. Though the results were supposed to be anonymous and without penalties incurred, this doesn't mean Alex Rodriguez is in the clear for having claimed to have stopped taking steroids in 2003. It was illegal, against the rules, cheating, and just plain wrong.

Guys, they don't know if he took steroids, all he did was take a women a women fertility drug (hcg) that jumpstarts the body's natural testosterone. It is USUALLY taken after a cycle of steroids. It looks like he did steroids but what he took WASN'T a steroid.

Except he still broke rules in the process which is why he's suspended.

Exactly. Do you guy's know what roids do? Sure they make you strong, but they give you acne, roid rage, and shrink a certain body you don't want to shrink they are just bad. Plus, you get a much better feeling and you look better in the eyes of your friends and families if you work hard and eat right every day.

However, I think it is likely that he juiced during the offseason since nobody would sign him and the drug he took helps cover up steroids.

do you guys think that Manny has any chance at being like Bonds in a few years with the whole noone wanting to sign him because of roids saga, he reminds me of Bonds too 'cause he can be a team problem and is a liability in the outfield. Manny at least admitted to the whole steroid thing but still...

Not anymore. Steroid used to be life threatening whe noverused. Now, with things like female hormones, there are no longer any problems. These are taken because after your body has been on steroids for a while, it stops producing testorione. When this happens, a player stops taking it and takes the hormone ntill his body starts producing natrual testorione agaiin.

This killed me when I found out. I get pissed at Yankee fans who are happy because now the 04 and 07 playoffs can be call illeginmite. Really sad. The two best hitters of the era took it, one for three years, and one for who knows how long.

Griffey didn't take 'roids. As far as we know.

I pray that Griffey didn't take them and I hope it turns out Manny didn't take em. Or has it already been confirmed??
