Pirates would never accept a trade including Lowell and Lugo. Unless it included prospects.

I understand that switching is hard, but not impossible. Upton made the change wonderfully. Now Lowell might now be able to but who knows?

Red Sox haven't done anything so far. There have only been 2 teams to make major deals, and that was the Yankees and the Mets. The Yankees definetly have been the most successful with CC and AJ though. The Royals have done a very nice job with making a few, nice small trades. The mets also made a great, brilliant trade for Puts. With so many players and 3 teams, such a trade is very impressive and well orchestrated. Have the A's signed anyone yet? I think they will sign Giambi.
They got Holliday.
also, the giants got jeremy affeldt, josh phelps (not that good, i know), and edgar renteria.

Phillies did make some deals, but in my opinion, they were actually quite questionable. For example, signing Ibanez was a waste - he's marginally better defensively than Burrell (which is still horrible), Ibanez bats left-handed (practically the entire Phillies lineup is lefty now), he's 5 years older, and the Phillies gave him a 3 year, $30 million contract? That's just stupid when you consider that Ibanez and Burrell are practically identical players, but Ibanez is 5 years older and the Phillies gave him 3 guaranteed years when they could have signed Burrell for 1 year. The only positive that the Phillies gain is a good personality, but Burrell was hardly Manny Ramirez in Boston.

The Phillies also re-signed Jamie Moyer, which, in my opinion, was also stupid. When a really old player has a good season, it is almost guaranteed that the next season won't be very successful. Signing Derek Lowe instead would give them a dependable, consistent #1 or #2 pitcher, and still give them the veteran leadership that Moyer had. And Lowe is 10 years younger.

They resigned Moyer more as a teacher for next year.

You figure you can get 1 year out Ibanez's contract as a definite, then that's 20mil left. Makes him easier to trade for some prospects, you get for 2 years, only 10mil left. If you take him for all 3 years... Not sure.

Tex is a Yankee. I guess that pretty much puts an end to this debate. Yankees devoured the free agent market.

What a brilliant job by Cashman. I can understand any hatred towards the Yankees right now, I would probably hate em' too if they weren't my team.
