Pedroia just won AL MVP with 16 of 28 first place votes. Good for him I have to say, he really deseverves it, from the defense, to to the offense.

Wow, I thought someone else was gonna win.
I'm sure there are better players than him though...
I just can't think of them off the top of my head.

The real suprise was Pujols. Howard, Fielder, and Manny all deserve it more than him. Maybe CC as well.

I was a little mad when my Dad said that a few minutes ago. (that Pujols won, that is.)

Not Manny.
Please not Manny.
Fielder isn't exactly the Prince of Fielding.
Same for Howard.
WHAT ABOUT DAVID WRIGHT???

Uhhhh :? i don't think David Wright. He had a good season, but... Yeah. Howard's fielding has gotten better, but obviously still has a long way to go.

Wright is a better defender, period.
He has barely less power (4 less HRs) and average.
Better speed than Pujols by a bit.

Pujols hit 4 more HRs in 100 less at bats... and average was .357 vs. .302... and the most important stats OBP and SLG Pujols was way better... and Pujols is a good defender for a 1B... you can't compare 3B defense with 1B defense

SLG is waaaay less important than OBP.
Defense can be compared to an extent, but they're both exceptional at their position (Though Pujols didn't win a Gold Glove...).
I will concede this, though:
Albert Pujols led the majors in MLV (Marginal Lineup Value) and VORP (Value Over Replacement Player) by wide margins.
Those stats are very accurate for judging players.

I am not arguing either way, but barely less average (assuming that you meant that for average as well).

Pujols batted .357, Wright batted .302. I don't call that barely.

Some other notables Pujols obp was .462 while Wright was .390. Pujols slg was .653 while Wright was .534. Pujols had 187 Hits, Wright 189. Pujols had 37 HR, Wright 33. Pujols had 116 RBI, Wright had 124. Pujols K'd 54 times, Wright 118. Fielding Percentage Pujols .996, Wright .962. Pujols had 7 SB, while Wright 15.

Here is the what if factor, Pujols played on 148 games, Wright played 160.

Howard could have won it hands down if he would not have batted .251.

As for Manny, his numbers (H, RBI, HR) actually are comparable to Wrights, but has a higher avg, obp, slg by at 30, 40, 60 points respectively. Unfortunately Manny played in both the NL and AL this year; therefore, probably didn't have a chance because of this.

Fielders numbers were all less than Pujols and most of Wrights.

Remember this award is generaly the Most Oustanding Statistics Award. Keeping everything the same, then comes team effect.

Get off the topic of Howard winning it. He won't until that avg gets up.

Pedroia won it mainly beacause of that AMAZING defense.

I totally agree. I think it is near impossible to win it with a .251 batting average. He would have to hit 60 HR and 180 RBI to be even considered with that batting average.

HRs and RBIs mean alot more than avg. Think, if you get 200 base hits, how many do you think you will score off of? But if you hit 50 HRs, that's a significant amount of help to your team. Same with RBIs. A few clutch hits are better than a bunch of meaningless hits.

The category RBI's is not accurate. It does not help you determine if a player is good or not.

Runs batted in refers to how many times during your at-bat that a player scores. However, based on your order in the lineup, this category can make or break you in the MVP voting. A player batting first can only get an RBI in his first at-bat of the game if he hits a HR, not likely since the first batter is usually attempting to hit for contact. A player batting fourth of fith has the heart of the lineup in front of him, most likely leading to some runners on base at the time of the at-bat. In some cases, these players can get out and still get an RBI by a sacrifice fly. Any power hitter, who will most likely be batting fourth or fifth, is most likely to get the MVP, thanks to their batting order.
