Guys, this is my first topic ever, and I don't know what to do
And forgive me if this had ever been discussed before, I'm just an ordinary human kid who've just entered this forum
Well, I'll give it a shot

So, what do you think about the game ratings in MLBPP?
Mine is:
Gameplay: 10/10 :D
Graphics: 8/10 :)
Sound: 10/10 (I sing these songs while in shower.. well they're good, what am I to do about it?)

So what do you guys think? :?: :?:

the game would earn a 10 with online play. standard at this point in video game history. also, AI managerial decisions in season mode could use some improvement. despite this, i consider power pros the best modern baseball video game.

Graphics: 9.5/10
as a old school gamer i prefer amazing gameplay over flashy, hi-tech graphics. mlbpp gets the job done with chibi style anime characters without being awkward or extra blocky. that being said, graphics could improve with more of a selection of character appearances.

Sound: 2/10
being use to a library of classic 8-bit tunes as well as epic soundtracks like those found in Final Fantasy 7, the power pro's vgm lacks mightily with menu music sounding alot like cheesy, regurgitated Saved by the Bell theme songs. i'd much rather have the chanting crowds found in Pawapuro games and in real japanese ball games than redundant fans screaming like broken records and the ultra generic music blasting on the PA during games. there are definitely a few gems in the game but as a music producer myself, this category leaves much to be desired.

Why i rated graphics 8 is because the japanese versions are way better in graphics.

There's always room for improvment.
Graphics: N/A
Guys, this game is made to intentionally have stupid graphics. But for the stuff other than the players, I'd give it an 8.5. Why can't any video game get grass right?
Sound: 7 out of 10
It's good, but it gets really annoying when you hear it over and over again when making an arrange team or S/L.
I bump it up for originality and some other categories, so I give it a 9.

Developers *can* get grass right, but you don't have the computing horsepower to run the games so developers have to compromise. To do real-time photorealistic grass and trees that respond realistically to the movement of the wind at and kind of field of depth takes a ton of processing power. But games generally have some sort of motion action going on, so devoting the processing power necessary to generate grass/trees (especially on a sports game where there are large areas of grass) is going to compromise smoothness/quality of gameplay because there just isn't enough processing power to go around.

Anyway, for MLBPP ratings...

Gameplay: 8/10 - incredibly smooth, very few annoying glitches, docked for atrocious computer managerial AI.

Graphics: 8/10 - there are two ways to evaluate graphics. First is pure eye candy. Obviously PP comes up short there. Second is how well the graphics compliment (or detract from) the gameplay and the enjoyment of the game. Here PP is strong, the animation style fits the theme/concept of the game perfectly. The graphics don't hinder gameplay in any way, and it is easy to argue that they allow the game to play smoother than other sports titles that go for more photorealistic graphics. Yet for the "simplistic" style, there is an amazing attention to detail individual player stances/deliveries/mannerisms. And they incorporated ballpark specific visuals that you wouldn't necessarily expect (specific fireworks pattern after a Rangers homerun at home, buses going by outside Wrigley, etc.). Would MLBPP be a better game if the graphics were more like MLB2K9? I don't think so personally.

Sound: 4/10 - the theme music is catchy, even if it is cheesy synth stuff (I'm pretty confident in saying the electric guitar parts aren't actually played on guitar). The ballpark game sounds are good, though there could stand to be more ambient noise (crowd noise, occasional between pitch organ music, etc.). The play-by-play announcing is well documented horrendous, and the PA announcer mispronounces too many names. Not enough variation, particularly lacking in park-specific noise (like the trains in Seattle and Houston, the buses/traffic outside of Wrigley, planes going by overhead near many parks, etc.).

I don't have time to explain in detail why I gave these ratings, but here goes:

gameplay: 9.5/10 basically the same as Wyl's comments
graphics: 9/10 ditto.
sound: 4.5/10 Some of the music (esp. success mode) is catchy, but the announcing is terrible, and the other music is pretty bland and cheesy.

intangibles: 99.9/10

OVERALL: 9.3/10 the basic stats are above average, but the intangibles make the game neck and neck with the other best '08 baseball video game, MLB 08 the show. Still, MLBPP 08 is one of the best baseball video games out there.

I've never played MLB 08 the show before, but most people I know say it's awesome, so I'll go with it, for now. The demos I've played seem pretty good.

Yes, I understand that. I play a lot of Madden and MLBPP, Fifa World Cup, and other sports games. It's just that sometimes, I play games for the sake of this, glitches, etc. It's just something I noticed in all of the above games.

I'd say:
Gameplay 10/10 Just great gameplay between the modes and just the style od play, PP shines here.
Graphics 7/10 the graphics are good for what they are meant to be, but things like the stadiums and such need soem work
Sound 4/10 Success has a few catchy jingles, but outside that sound stinks. Needs some work, including fixing the announcing.
Overall: Average 7/10 My opinion 8.5/10 The game has alot of great faucets to it, but it still has a good bit of room for imrovement.

Gameplay:9/10 Fielding controls......just because a guy makes a dives into the wall doesn't mean he can't move for 3 seconds.
Graphics:9.5/10 A few minor things here and there
Sound/announcing:3/10 Merluzzi enough said.

Overall: 8.7/10 Based on what it could be.
