I just purchased MLB Power Pro 2008 (Wii) for my son yesterday and neither of us are having much lucking hitting the ball, let alone just making contact. The game seems like it would be fun if we could just put the ball in play. Does anyone have any hitting tips for beginners? Is there a way to set the computer player so that he only throws down the middle?

Thank you

Set your lock on to 5, or best try. Lock on 5 will make the cursor find the ball faster, and best try will make any hit in the cursor a power hit. Sounds like you need the lock on help more, since this will help you make better contact.

You can also make the pitch speeds slower, and set the opposing pitcher to novice if the pitching seems too hard.

Also it does take a little patience to get good at hitting. Especially if the team you're using has low contact players.

Welcome to the forums, dconvery!

On topic: turn Lock-on up, then gradually move it back after you begin to get better.

Things you can do:

  • Lower the computer player's level to Novice. In Exhibition Mode, this can be done on the screen you get after choosing the ball park.
  • As others have said, select a higher Lock-On setting. In Exhibition Mode, you need to select My Option to configure this freely. Then on the lineup screen before you playball, go to Options, and scroll down to Sweetspot Cursor and set it to Lock-On 5.
  • There's also a batting practice feature in Practice Mode. You can set the pitch type as well as location to focus on something specific.

On top of what everyone else has said, I'd suggest playing with a better team untill you get the hang of it. The over-powered Yankees or Mets are probably the best offensive choice.

I never thought I'd get so many responses so quickly. Thank you very much.

Very welcome! Also maybe make an arrange team stacked with bad pitchers.

Forgot this (new feature in 2008):

  • On the same screen you pick the computer player's level, adjust Pitch Speed Lv to Slow.
