I believe its Orlando Hernandez. I liked the high leg kick; felt like it gave him a little personality.

I did notice that his custom pitch is a little off; it definitely doesn't seem to be the knockout punch I was expecting. But I shouldn't complain; I'm just a perfectionist like that. Played my first game with him; CG SO, 20 Ks, 4 H against the Rockies. He definitely needs to get his arm strength up; I didn't pay much attention to it. Will probably add a couple of mph to his pitches.

What do you mean his custom pitch is a little off?

And isn't 105 the highest top speed possible?

See my other post in the Dad's training thread for my concerns regarding the custom pitch. Basically, I wonder if I would've been better off not training with Dad.

Yeah, 105 is tops but your guy will only reach it to a certain degree. I played around with the edit function and arm strength does affect pitch speed in a small way. When maxed out, pitches will be 1-2 mph faster. Unfortunately I realized this too late for Arteaga, but its good to know. I'll just train him up during the season, but its not like he needs it. I started a season up and simulated 10 starts before I started using him in my own season just to put my fears to rest about something being "wrong" with him. He went 10-0, 9 SO, 10 CG, 90 IP, 210 K, 9 BB, 0.18 ERA, .040 OPP BA. I think he'll be fine regardless of the condition of his custom pitch. :P

I've made quite a few pitchers, and none have gotten the custom pitch training, despite doing everything right (fate cards all correct). Maybe if I save/loaded for RE's.

Just be thankful you had the opportunity.

This arm strength thing is interesting. It must be the answer to all the questions about how to reach your top speed. I wonder if using the accelerating soles to get the top speed up to 105, then boosting it again to "acquire" the top speed has any positive effect in increasing the in-game speed.

With all my pitchers I hold the R button (classic controller) or the B button ( Wiimote-Nunchuk) and repeatedly tap the A button and i can get the full 105mph speed when they have full motivation. I know it goes down 1-3 mph per level based on their motivation.

I was just playing a new season with adding the two expansion teams and entering every player that I have from success mode and every player that I could get from this topic to my season. Trick is that I used them and traded them to teams that I like to meet up in the playoffs. All the players that I see here on this site that are created success mode real mlb named players I add to a real mlb team. if its a made up name then I just give them off to the expansion team. Ill let you know my players that came up real cheap and kick ass. Ill give you the line up later. Its fun when you play against your own creations!!! oh and thanks guys for the players you make. Ill be making more players after this season. trust me, you will like the hall of fame players I want to make. Ruth was my last one, but I made him as best as I could as he was a Red Sox and a batter plus pitcher. If your wondering how do I get him to hit in my games. just before the game, go to fielders and put him in. He could hit a ton sometimes. Well Ill keep you posted.

See the earlier post for stats. Pre-registering results in a salary under 2000; registering for an existing season is a little over 7000. One reason he's so cheap compared to a maxed-out batter might have to do with the number of abilities. Gaia had around 40 and Arteaga has 28 I think. Just an idea, but its weird that a maxed pitcher would be so cheap. Maybe I screwed him up somewhere but I don't see it. If someone sees something let me know. Enjoy! :D

That's a great bonus to have especially for a near-perfect pitcher.

I have a theory on how it may have happened; I think it's possible that once you go over a certain point in stats/abilities (eg 25500) the salary algorithm runs out of buffer length and only carries over the surplus, sort of like how a mileage meter resets to zero after 999999.

I once had a similar situation in ERA auto generation (My Data > Custom Edit Player > Statistics Setup) which I usually use to gauge how good the game sees my creations. Once I made a pretty good pitcher and the game kept giving him a 90+ ERA.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right because I noticed something similar to that in success mode. I know the book is still out on how much luck affects things, but I'm convinced that for a save/reload gambler luck is absolutely crucial. Case in point; at one point when I was making Arteaga I was trying to get Dr. GJ and was having a horrible time. A few turns back I had purchased both luck necklaces (Fortune and Goddess) to compensate for my "good" luck. After a few more turns, some events had made my luck rise back up to "excellent". Even though I was having problems landing GJ, I decided to grind that turn out until I had success because I couldn't bear the thought of waisting a turn while things were so tight. After finally getting GJ, I hit the store and sold both necklaces. Within 30 minutes I ran into GJ TWICE and had success with a CHALLENGE card BOTH times. When all was said and done, in 2 hours of reloading I ran into GJ four times and was 4 for 4 with challenge cards. My thought when I sold the necklaces was that if the developers didn't put a cap on luck then it was possible my necklaces bumped me past "excellent" luck and back around to "poor" luck. Now I don't need someone to tell me that even if this is true that going 4/4 with GJ in 2 hours of play is ridiculous and will probably never happen again, but I couldn't argue with the results. I also understand that I probably take save/reloading to another level(an insane one), and I admit that I've put a ridiculous amount of time into my characters compared to the time everyone else has put into theirs, but it seems luck makes a difference.

People on these forums have jokingly told me many times that I'm the luckiest person they know or that I must have a "generous" copy of the game, but every time I've made characters I've always made sure that nothing lowered my luck (With the exception of Arteaga, but I was actually shocked when I noticed he had "good" luck because I couldn't recall anything happening that lowered it). Taking all of this into consideration, its only reinforced my strategy. So I guess my point from this rather long post is that it would seem that the developers didn't cap off a lot of things and luck appears to be one of them.

And knowing is half the battle.... :D

Luck is usually quite easy to keep up, though.
The only things that lower it for me include when i allow toby to be captain.

Yeah it is pretty easy to keep up, I was just making the point of how useful I believe it is. I didn't know how much attention people were giving it.

Oh, and sorry for the long post earlier.... it was clearly time for me to go to bed. :D

Yeah, I think it affects gambling as well. The "bars" (or whatever they are) seem closer together when luck is high, even if the odds are the same.

Anyway:

Three more (I was so surprised to get Gyroball for my two pitchers, even though I was shooting for them):

Alan Horne (Starter):

Mark Melancon (Closer) - No Gambling Ring (Intimidating Becky doesn't give an effing Surprise Bag), ton of tickets, perfectly good [after mrsims post somewhere, I decided to max-out his arm strength) :

(Is Sparkplug good for a crappy-hitting pitcher, ah well, stick him in AL)

Kirby Drake (Right Field, LF, CF) - created as a good fielding outfielder, with pop off the bench ... for an All-Star team!:

Next on my list:

College Star - in SI's Faces in the Crowd - 1B - Yonder Alonso - 4 TRJ, B CON, High-B power, C RUN, C ARM, B FLD, B ERES.

Up in one-two weeks. Enjoy the others for now.
