Wow, after looking over some of these success guys I don't know how you do it. I read up on some tutorials (using the gambling ring, save/load, etc) and it took me a whole night 6-11 to get a guy through with mild abilities. SS with CON - B, POW - E or F, RUN SPD - A, FLD - C, ARM - C, TRJ - 2, ERR R - C, just one red hit zone spot, and maybe 10 or 11 aquired abilities.

I was using the gambling ring most of the time and saving/gambling a ton!! I was almost full on 3 social catagories (love, work, school) and won all the games except my first game against the rings in year 2 and the all-star game. Lost 8-4 in the all-star game which I thougth was respectable, lol. I was team captain early which i figured may have something to do with my guy not being as good?

Also, I have never hit an extra base hit in my games, just singles everytime. My default settings are on normal swing not any lock-on, i assumed that all success players play without lock-on mode, is this correct?

I don't know how you guys can continually be blasting these great players out, I guess it's with experience but man the saving/loading gets old after a while. I'll try at a few more guys possibly but I must be missing something still to get my guy better. Anyone have any suggestions or can answer any of my questions above?

By the way this forum rocks, I enjoy the game a lot other than all the player editing I'm doing to fix the main roster changes. I have started my season over like 3 times already cause there's more i want to do to the rosters. And cudos to you guys for making these insanely good success players, it must be some kind of art, lol.

If you want to do well in games (for most people, there are exceptions). The Rookie Charm (while diminishing points) gives you lock-on for hitting, and the positives outweight the negatives.

Win the first championship game. The champion ring is quite important with its stat boost.

Always use a challenge card at work for more money.

Do strength training to increase power/stamina exclusively before the gambling ring is acquired. Stamina is key if you want your guy to pitch long and well in the first game. Power will make up for the lack of contact and speed. Fielding should be upgraded last, as it doesn't impact your guy in success mode.

See if you can e-mail odawali - he's got a great walk-through for a pitcher - he made a detailed log of everything he did on his way to making a pitcher - 105, A, A and a bunch of pitches and abilities.

cool, thanks for the quick response. I'm more geared at making fielders over pitchers as I am a SS and there are more positions for them to play.

Thr Rookie charm, I did have that (you start the game with it no?) but noticed you can buy more. Is it the more you buy the more lock-on hitting you get or if you have one rookie charm you don't need any more?

Didn't know about the early strength training, someone else said do all ur studying and working at the start then practice. I'm pretty happy with my guy as he has realistic abilities for a rookie, but I may make a few more to try make a skilled player.

Oh, the Rookie charm is at the beginning, they don't stack though. They can be bought and sold if you don't feel you need its aid.

DO study and work at the beginning, begin strength training once it is mentioned that the coach wants to see you practice - you will have to rest after studying until the VIT is yellow and once around the time you work.

Ok, so you have to sleep a few times in the beginning, but after that you never sleep again?

So I guess I couldn't hit any doubles with anyone (was captain) b/c noone had a good power rating? It's tough beating the Rings only hitting singles, lol

That's why I'm never captain. To hell with trying to beat the Cheating Rings using that scrub team

There are some instances (quite a few actually) that you will want to rest. After making the roster with a lot of strength training, you will want to rest, especially after a vitality-draining random event - so you can get the hyper recovery bonus for more power. Also, if you have no vitality from a random event, with no powerin-like items, rest if the h-rec gauge is relatively full. After resting would be a good time to work, increase the moneyman, and get money.

If you've read any guides at all, you probably know to save/load at the first shop appearance to get the Mind-Training AND recovery necklace. Getting these two early on is very important to continue practicing without studying, other than Annie/Professor HW. Any injuries will also hurt your stats, a lot, so save/load around those, too. I've never done it, but if you want a truly-maxed-out all A's guy, the save/loading involved is pretty frustrating (i.e. gambling at 5% success rates consistently, reloading for rare random events like Dr.Goodjob and Dad's Training, and training at 50+% injury rates). My A's and B's guys usually take me one/two weeks - weekends only and only 2 hours a day - usually less. The most problematic parts are getting the gambling ring, successfully challenging the boss consistently, getting challenge cards, and increasing top speed late in the game (the rate will drop to around 10% once your top speed gets to 90's and you gamble after every one practice).

The challenge card save/loading is another tactic I picked up from odawali. You can save/load every time you work until your boss talks to you during work, a challenge will increase your pay 20 each time, progressively. Sometimes it fails, in which case I quit and try again. The best way to get challenge cards other than restarting a player is at the beginning fixed events like Becky's lipstick, the first job appearance, and Willy's bat offers where they happen every time, so you can save/load to get a challenge card after using a different one.

That's what I love about this game, the success mode is so deep and draws you in.

It's also something where you definitely get better at it as you play through more times and refine your strategy.

I don't have the patience to do the truly maxed out guys that some of the members here have :) I'm not knocking them at all, they're turning out some amazing players. I just personally don't have the patience to get a player to that level. With my Hall of Fame player recreations I do more save/reload because I already have a specific set of skill levels and abilities that I'm going for with them, and those tend to be higher for the best players. When I'm making friends and family members I don't gamble with as low of percentages or really push to get maximum stat upgrades each round.

I was thinking, if Babe Ruth's top speed is only 78, then how slow is his changeup - 40?

I'm in the process of making an all-success mode team with a bunch of all-stars. It's fun to see the final product destroy the competition. Others here are different - they want fair, equal play. Nice guys finish last.

Updated my post to answer your question.... PW should be up by the end of the day at latest.

Would you believe I'm annoyed that I could only get my slow curve to a 6?

Oh yeah, and he's a bargain! If registered at the beginning of the season salary is under 2K! Don't know why he's so much cheaper than Gaia.

See the earlier post for stats. Pre-registering results in a salary under 2000; registering for an existing season is a little over 7000. One reason he's so cheap compared to a maxed-out batter might have to do with the number of abilities. Gaia had around 40 and Arteaga has 28 I think. Just an idea, but its weird that a maxed pitcher would be so cheap. Maybe I screwed him up somewhere but I don't see it. If someone sees something let me know. Enjoy! :D
