I thought I'd make a thread for anyone who's struggling to make a good success mode player. If you are ALREADY good at making players, share step by step instructions/strategies of how you do it so those who aren't as good can read and get some ideas on how to make a good player:

My strategy:

1. I usually practice power until there is a time the coach is watching practice, boosting coach eval.
2. I try to meet Jaw ASAP. When I do, I s/l until I get a surprise bag the first time, save the game, then reload until I get a gambler's ring from that surprise bag. I know it seems like such a hassle, but it's SO worth it. When you do get the gambler's ring, reload if it ever breaks. It doesn't break that often, so that's not that big of a problem. Then I never work for Jaw ever again.
3. I boost every ability (except power up to 13 (B), and arm strength). Why? I do this because I don't spend ANY money during the game until after the final game. That's when I buy new equipment to boost those abilities to 14 or 15 which is an (A). The reason I didn't include arm strength as well is because there is no equipment to boost that one. You have to boost that one on your own. Also, don't use your coupon until the end. You can use it to buy everything at once and saves you a lot of money.
4. When the story about the thief comes up. Try to catch him as soon as you can for more money. This of course helps to buy new equipment at the end.
5. After you get your abilities up to 13 (or an A for arm strength), work on power. One of the best ways to do this is work at the steakhouse. It can boost your power up to +4 at some times. I occasionally reload to get the best outcome for this part.

I'll add more if I remember any more of my strategy.

Instead of spending the money after the final game, i go to Bison before the last game to buy stuff and sell the rookie's charm. Also, I recommand doing Sittch's training up to a point when you can get the glove. It gives a free boost in whatever stat

actually, i always complete sittch's arc.
contact hitter/spray hitter are worth it for fielders, and of course there's the original pitch.
i only practice when the coach is there so i don't risk injury and so i can complete other RE's.
i always buy a prince's necklace, and i have two shiny fragrances handy, one for the batting test, and one for the final game.
using these methods, i maxed out the scout's eval about a month (maybe more) before the final game!

with the thief, i think weve concluded that if he goes:
East, go North
North, go East
West, go South
South, go West
i could be wrong though, so try this at your own risk.

first post actually helpful to people in mlb power pros by me!

You don't have to worry about eval. Trust me, if you S/L(practice, games), your eval will be maxed by the end of 1st year.

I think you have them backwards.

East, go South
South, go East
North, go West
West, go North

Also, complete the Frank arc. You usually get Melvin coming at Week 4 of Jan of year 2 to tell you what happened to Frank and Frank himself visits on Week 4 of Feb. You get Good Sense from him, which really helps in getting points from practices.

Yes, East goes with South, and West goes with North. I get $1,500 every time.

EDIT: Wait a minute, you can get an original pitch from completing Sittch's arc?

Wow. I didn't know that. I don't make pitchers very often because for some reason they're harder for me.

Yeah, I'm working on my pitcher last night in Success mode. I got the original pitch from Sittch, Good Sense from Frank, and the Gyroball from Patty. Working in my second year to buff up my character before the season is over.

Also, another good tip is to try to get your energy bar full. I find that doing a lot of the story arcs raises the energy bar and filling it up gives you more carryover points. Like right now, I get about 2 turns a week 3 out of the 4 weeks (if I'm not mistaken. I think I also used a chocolate bar that gives carryover points), so that helps a lot.

I have a surprise bag right now and I'm trying to get Secrets of Pitching. I'm having a tough time getting it. Does it usually take a long time? I

but i don't S/L except for passing AA/AAA and sometimes for an ability, which i always seem to get on the first try...
