I made this topic to discuss how we can perfect or get very close and accurate to the appearances and stances of players. In this topic, we can discuss what appearances we can give players and what stances/windup they should have. It doesn't have to be all out, but if there is one that looks highly accurate we don't know about, we can help each other out. I struggle to give players appearances and stances/motions, because I want it to look highly accurate, and I also don't want to trust myself in this. I prefer using what other people think about it. Thanks guys!

Here's what you do.

You go on the Internet. Look up an image of the person. Pick an appearance that is close enough.

Same thing for stances. It's literally this simple.

Yeah, I try to find either YouTube or MLB video of guys' stances, and probably do a Google image search for the player to see the appearance. After that, it's up to interpretation. It's tricky, because some guys have funky stances that have no equal in the game, and you have to find one that's close. That's the only tough part about it, really.

First we are assuming you have bought (unlocked) all the pitching deliveries and batting stances. Important!

For pitchers, first I look at video from a few angles, and try to classify him - submarine is obvious, sidearm is like Justin Masterson, so those two are easy. Deciding between overhand and 3/4 can be a bit harder/more subjective, but if you watch enough video and compare, it gets easier.

Once in a delivery category, I focus on where the glove is right before delivery - at their chest, their waist, over their head, etc. That usually leads to only a few choices, and then it's whittling it down to the best match - does one fall off more towards the 3B side, is one easier or more violent, etc.

Batters, it's the same thing - work the classification first. Standard, open, closed, etc. Video of a guy batting makes it easy to see which general family they are in.

Once in that sub-section, they you are looking for where the bat is in relation to them - does the barrel of the bat hang behind and over their shoulders, or is it in front of them and parallel to their body? Do they twirl the bat in a circle or just take regular practice swings? AGain once you whittle it down to the closest 4 or 5, it's pretty easy (and doesn't make much difference).

The worst thing you can do is just have an over the top, terrible batting stance when it doesn't fit the guy. If you gave everyone the Youkillis stance, or those stances where the bat gets in the way of the field of vision and makes batting harder. So many styles are over the top, like Jeter and ARod and Giambi and Ryan Howard, so a lot of them can just be thrown out of consideration.

If you have a particular guy you need help with, or want to work through as an example, post it here. Otherwise, follow the video!

Thanks for the help AOW and Dish. One guy I seem to have trouble with is Yasmani Grandal's appearance. I found a close enough stance, but his appearance throws me off a tad bit. Much appreciated guys!

Yasmani Grandal…so he is a cuban-american…but his skin tone is very much like a normal white dude. So I would go for the normal white guy skin tone…the second one is like asian, and the third one is hispanic, which doesn't quite fit him.

Dark eyes
regular eyebrows
you need a facial hair/goatee thing to match what he has. looks like you can go with the full scratchy beard, or just the little goat jutting out.
either short hair or you can do the long shaggy hair, like Bronson Arroyo do. He's had that a lot.
blue armband on left forearm

Thats about it man. Not much to it.

I don't know if this will help or it's just insanity on my part. I went through and matched all the heads in the game to their respective player. The list is on here somewhere, I know I posted it. Then, I looked up all their birthplaces and I try to match the player I am making to someone from that same area. I even broke it down into the respective provinces for Canada and Japan. I looked up a few of the players who are of different ethnic backgrounds, e.g. Cuban-Americans. and used their faces to try to match up appropriately. Don't know if it will help you but I like how most of them turn out. On occasion I do have to fudge it a little to make it work, but if nothing else it's a starting point for me. Off the top of my head, Bronson Arroyo and Raul Ibanez are both of Cuban descent and have similar in-game skin tones. I'll have to try and find my file to see if anyone else could be useful.
