Bears get 32 hits in rout of Hawks

The Bears absolutely clobbered the Hawks last night and lost a player in the process. In the second, Nick Lockhart poked an RBI single to left to start the scoring, 1-0. Later in the inning, Justin Case, slapped a 2-R 2B to left-center field, making it 3-0. The next batter, Kitoaji, knocked Case in with an RBI single, 4-0. In the third, Ryosei Dan smoked an RBI single to make it 5-0. In the bottom half of the third, Dan made an outstanding diving play on a ground ball and threw the runner out. Unfortunately, he was taken out of the game, and was diagnosed with a jammed wrist. Doctors say he could be back tomorrow. Matsuda, was able to rip an RBI single, to reduce the lead to 5-1. In the fourth, Yamaguchi drove a 2-R 2B and Crosby smoked a 3-R HR. 10-1. After that, the Bears were able to score 12 more runs to win 22-1.

2013 NPB Rookie Report, April

There are many great rookies in the NPB this season thanks to the Advanced Draft, we will now analyze how the top 10 picks of the NPB Advanced Draft are currently performing.

3B Sosa Kenobi - Yokohama DeNa BayStars (B)
.304 5 15 -- Kenobi has underperformed according to the big hype that was started at the beginning of the season. Although he leads the Central League in stolen bases, he has only bashed 5 home runs, I expect this number to increase over the rest of the season and still expect 30 home runs out of Kenobi.

C Masato Kurihara - Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles (A+)
.343 13 34 -- Kurihara is having a great rookie campaign so far, as he batted .343 in April, bombing 13 home runs and knocking in 34. These numbers would easily top the league in the Central. Kurihara has shown off his great bat and great speed, in fifth in the stolen base race.

SS Raicho Tsuruga - Chunichi Dragons (B+)
.281 9 19 -- Tsuruga had a solid first month, leading the Central League in homers and reeling in the hitter of the month award. These numbers though, are only considered mediocre in the Pacific League.

P Craig Stevens - Hanshin Tigers (C+)
4.80 3-2 9K -- Stevens has 3 wins, but his ERA has been terrible, at 4.80. He has only struck out 9 batters as well, in his 5 games started. His "Killball" has obviously not baffled any hitters this season, recording only 2.7 K/9 innings.

P Hiro Yaka -- Chiba Lotte Marines (A-)
3.51 2-0 38K -- Yaka has had a solid season so far, racking up the third most strikeouts in the Pacific League with 38. He also remains unbeaten in his 3'starts, at 2-0, as well as keeping his ERA down, sub-4.

P King-Kong Khao -- Kyoto Nintendo Whalers (D)
7.47 1-4 9K -- Khao has been all but good this season. In 5 starts, he is 1-4 with a 7.47 ERA, far worse than expected of Khao. He has also, only struck out 9 batters this year.

OF Toby Ita -- Hiroshima Toyo Carp (A-)
.333 3 14 -- Ita has been great for the Crap this season. He is batting .333, good enough for 3rd in the Central League, with 3 dingers and 14 RBI's. The Carp love Ita, as he has been their top hitter this season as a rookie.

OF Samurai Ishikawa -- Tokyo Yakult Swallows (B-)
.292 1 10 -- Ishikawa's disappointing .292 average, actually leads the Swallows, so he has obviously been an asset to his team. He only hit 1 home run, but expect to see his numbers skyrocket in the latter months of the season. This guy is still a top prospect.

P Yoda Aoi -- Sapporo Bears (A-)
3.43 3-1 33 -- So far, Aoi has been one of the best rookie pitchers in the NPB this year. He leads the Bears in every main pitching category this year, as Sora Maeda has started the year in a sophomore slump. Aoi has been very valuable to the Bears because of Maeda's recent failures.

1B Mamoru Suechii -- Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters (B)
.304 4 14 -- Suechii's numbers have been very solid so far this season sporting a .304 clip at the plate with 4 home runs to tack on. Suechii has been a great first base man for the Fighters this season as well.
