Does anyone know how to find the dog for Jaw?
Edit:Let me save you your breath. Don't need help with this, I asked this almost 2 months ago and I know the answer. Not sure how this got back to the top, but there is some interesting discussion about Jaw none the less. Hence, I change the title to Success Mode Strategies and Dealing with Jaw.

You pick one of the options and hope he's there. Also I heard that if you miss him one week you can look in the vicinage later.

You'll have to s/l till you get the job from jaw, though the chances are high. But you'll have to guess where it goes, its randomly generated

Yeah. That. The chances are really high of the dog event. If I reload for a surprise bag it takes like 10-15 times before I get a different job.

i'm not sure if this has been posted yet anywhere else, but theres a correlation between whether you ask for an explanation and which way to find the dog.

if you say "i'd appreciate that" the dog is to the right

if you say "no you dont need to" the dog is to the left.

im not sure about the rest of the jaw jobs.

The correlation is news to me. Where did you find this out or did you test it a bunch of times?

Also, your reward from the lady is determined by what week you find the dog

3 weeks to go - Hitter Bat or Pitcher Glove and $300 from Jaw
2 weeks to go - Surprise Bag and $250 from Jaw
1 week to go - Discount Coupon and $200 from Jaw

Therefore, you cannot get a bat or glove if you are only given 2 weeks to start with, but if you are given 3 weeks to start with and miss it, go to the vicinage and try the other direction (seems to work for me). Although I usually would just save and load and try again.

Nah, I've skipped the explanation every time after my second playthrough and have found the dog by going right plenty of times.

I find the direction of the Dog to be completely random. I always choose left, and its basically 50/50 to find the dog each time. I have (as Im sure you have too, SM96) done this RE well into the hundreds of times, and over the average, Id say its 50% on either direction guess. And yeah, I just load again if I dont get the 2 week job, and find the dog right away- I dont like wasting a week looking if I got the 3 week version, and guessed wrong the first time. I'd rather just load for the 2 week one and save my action.

1) Is Jaw the best source of income? I can’t find anything that comes close to $300/$250 + equipment/Surprise Bag.
2) Energy. I understand the goal is to fill the bar quickly, but are energy drinks the fastest way? I feel like I am wasting too many turns at Bison’s.
3) If #1 and #2 are true, then I assume the best way to begin a new mega character is to:
- Find Jaw during the first month, then;
- Alternate between working for Jaw and buying/drinking obscene amounts of energy drinks while boosting with the Gambler’s Ring whenever you are lucky enough to receive points through random events/games. then;
- Once the energy bar is full, spend each week this way:
--- visit Bison’s on turn #1 for three candies and a Carryover Chocolate;
--- use the remainder of turns from weeks 2 and 3 on story arcs, but save enough turns so you have 3 for week 4, then;
--- practice during week 4.

Does this sound right or am I missing out on something? I’m pretty comfortable with everything else, but I feel like I could be more efficient with my time. Thanks for any advice.

1) I believe Jaw is the best source of Income $250 + surprise bag ($300) for $550 per turn or $300 + equipment (~$400) for $700 per turn, or better yet Income $250 + surprise bag/get gambler's ring ($750) for $1000 per turn. This is assuming that you are selling the items. Obviously if you need the item, it is much more valuable than the sell price. Don't forget the thief event in which you can get $787.50 per turn if you find him during week 1 ($1575 for 2 turns - 1 for food, 1 for thief place).

Note: You could work for jaw for 11 weeks and earn $1000 + monthly salary. Use the $11000 to buy 18 bat waxes for $10800. Add them to a Bomber Arch (+6 Power) that you got from a twelth Jaw job, for a bat with +60 Power. This would take your measly 120 C PWR guy to a whopping 180 A PWR guy. I didn't do it this way, but I have had a bat that was +55 power.

2) I find the best way to fill the energy bar is through events. I never buy drinks. By the time year one is over, I have the bar full. I also buy the carryover chocolate (this gives an additional 3/10 or 4/10 command per week, don't remember). They cost you $50 a piece. You have 12 slots. I use 3 slots for rookie charm(optional), gambler's ring, psychic goggles(optional). I fill the other slots with 9 carry over chocolates. You immediately use one after buying them. This leaves a slot open for surprise bag (important to have an empty slot for this). Therefore, you need $450 ($405 if you have a discount coupon) to fill it up. I wait until I the money before going to Bison - 2 Jaw Jobs. I, then, go to Bison one more time right before Christmas and fill up again. So, I usually only go to Bison 3 times during year 1, and then never again.

Note: The energy bar is out of 100, for each 20 energy, you get an additional 1/10 command per week. I never advance to get more turns for week three at the expense of the weekly commands bar. You need to watch and see how much your weekly command bar is increasing. Having an additional turn is more important than practicing during week 4.

3) As far as the best way. Each person has their own method. I will be posting (in a couple of days) a character creation history that I have been working on for maxing out a hitter (although I think I blew Intimidator some how). You will be able to see what I did and then come up with how you would do it. I basically stick to the same method everytime. I just make minor changes to customize it for the player I want to create.

Note: I don't believe in working where the coach is for the sake of the coach being there. I save and load a lot. I hardly ever PROGRESS the schedule to practice during week 4 because it usually costs me ticks on my weekly commands bar.

Hope this helps!!!!

Hell yes. That helps a ton actually. Thanks for the in-depth reply. I guess I haven't been patient enough with the energy bar. I haven't seen it move much (if any) after free time events, but perhaps my practice sessions are depleting what I gain.

What do you do for Vitality? I love the tip about buying mass quantities of Carryover Chocolates (which I assume you eat once per week) to avoid repeated trips to Bison's, but this obviously leaves no room for candy in a pinch.

Generally, you only need 1 chocolate per month. The item is greyed out until the effect is over. I believe it lasts about 4 weeks. I always go back and check my items about every couple of weeks, so I can use another one.

As for vitality, I usually just go to the Hotdog for a spicy dog special for +50 at $8 or the Food for a chinese combo for +70/75 for $50 to get a boost. The amount of extra vitality I get for the $42 is well worth the extra turn for me that I don't have to spend to go and get some more vitality.

Generally I don't practice very much, so I don't use up that much vitality. So, the next question most people ask is, but how do you get your scout and coach points up. I get most of my coach and scout points from playing the games. If I don't get at least 10+ scout points during a game. I re-load and play again.

The following is from memory, so if the numbers are wrong, please don't crucify. I will confirm them when I get home this evening. Actually I will put question marks in there for now and fill in later. I will bump the topic when I do.
You need 40 scout points to make it to AAA.
You need ?? coach points to start in AAA.
You need ?? scout points to make it to the majors.

There are 5 games during Year 1 - Aegis, WildJokers, MachSocks, Burgers, WildJokers

So, if I get let's say 6 coach and 13 scout points per game. I would have a total of 30 coach and 65 scout points at the end of year 1 just from the games. Plus There is the scout test and you get about 5 scout from that.

Note: While typing I initially put 60 "couch" points instead of coach before posting. Based on the amount of time I play, I bet I have about 1 million couch points. :) :D :mrgreen:

Hope this helps.

it helps a lot. the main reason i like this website is it helps me because my players are always terrible. When you made Wolf, SF96, how did you get his stats to all A's if you don't practice a lot?

For vitality I find a useful trick is to buy the recovery necklace- it gives you just enough energy every week to run a practice if you want, making injury rate go down from 99% to 18-22% usually if you are at 0 vitality to start. I use this alot at the end of my year 2 when I am practice spamming each week to boost a pitch type or get stats. I can practice 4 weeks in a row this way, and this enables me to boost a pitch or ability 4 points/ratings per month by gambling.

I find at the end of my year 2 I have little else left to do aside from practice or go to the steakhouse, so I usually practice to get points in 3 training types( mentality, technique , etc.) then spend those points on a upgrade before repeating it again the next week once the necklace gives me free energy again. In this way I avoid ever having to buy hotdogs/chinese food, and still can practice enough to max out all my skills by the end.
