Baltimore Orioles (21-22) vs. Washington Nationals (19-24)
May 17th, 2008

Baltimore -- The Nationals got another valuable win as John Lannan pitched a shutout. Lannan shutout the Orioles allowing 5 hits and no walks while striking out 14, good for his 2nd victory of the year. For the offense, Nick Johnson and Ryan Zimmerman stood out, combining for 6 hits, while Johnson roped a homer and 2 RBI. Brandon Moss also went 4-4 with an RBI. Troy Patton pitched 4 innings for the Orioles in a losing effort, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 8. Nick Markakis led the charge for the Orioles going 3-4 with a double.

Washington -- The Nationals couldn't pull it out today. Jason Bergmann was pitching a shutout until the ninth when he allowed 4 runs to the Brewers, giving up their 3-0 lead. Bergmann pitched a complete game allowing 4 runs on 8 hits striking out 8, throwing 103 pitches. Chris Capuano threw 7 and a third innings allowing 3 runs, giving up 9 hits and walking 1 en route to a no decision. Ryan Zimmerman capitalized on offense for the Nats, going 3-4 with his 7th home run of the season, and 2 RBI. Mike Cameron went 3-4 for the BrewCrew with 2 RBI and the go ahead hit.

Nationals Option Struggling Pitchers

Washington -- Today, June 1st, 2008, the Nationals optioned starting pitchers Jason Bergmann and Shawn Hill to AAA Harrisburgh. The two starters have been struggling recently. Johnny Cueto and Michael O'Connor have been called up to take their spots in the rotation

He doesn't want to be called up until he's ready, and I thought he was in the MLB cause there was an 8.29 era by his name.

Yeah, he was in the MLB with the Reds, I just called him up. I'll see what he can do in a few starts. He hasn't pitched for MLB Washington yet.

Yeah, I don't think I'll make an offer for Putz. I'll look at Chamberlain and Andrew Brown of the A's. Andrew Cashner will probably take over our closing role though.
