Opening Day 2008

Washington -- The Nationals lost their first ever game under new GM Lance Sabers. It was a great game, but one team had to win, and the Nats just didn't have it tonight. John Smoltz threw a 4-hit shutout, striking out 13 and walking 2. Odalis Perez pitched a gem as well, going the whole game, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, and striking out 14, throwing just 99 pitches. Mark Texieira supplied the offense for the Braves, going 1-3 with an RBI single in the fourth. Ryan Zimmerman was the offense for the Nats going 2-4.

Washington Nationals (1-5) @ St. Louis Cardinals (3-2)
April 6th, 2008

St. Louis -- The Nationals rout Cardinals for 2nd win. Odalis Perez pitched another gem in tonight' going 8 innings giving up no runs on 7 hits, striking out 9, throwing only 80 pitches. Kyle Lohse got roughed up, allowing 5 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings, giving up 11 runs and striking out 6, and throwing 86 pitches. Nick Johnson was the main source of the offense for the Nationals, going 4-5 with a home run and 4 runs batted in as well as scoring twice. Willy Mo Pena and Elijah Dukes also contributed with solo home runs of their own. Albert Pujols and Juan Encarncion piled in two hits each for the Cardinals, and Chris Duncan smashed an RBI double off of Ryan Wagner in the ninth.

Nationals make splash, sign big prospect
The Nationals made a big splash signing young future ace Clayton Kershaw (95 DA 1SLD 5DCB 2CCHG). Kershaw will definitely help the Nationals young rotation but will probably not make a debut until 2009.

Washington Nationals (6-7) @ Mew York Mets (7-5)
April 15th, 2008

New York -- The Nats tried to come back, but just couldn't. Or
Orlando Hernandez was dominant for the Mets tonight until the ninth, as the Mets held off the Nationals to take the division lead. Hernandez went 9 innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits recording 14 strikeouts. Hernandez has a shutout going. With two outs in the ninth, Felipe Lopez and Austin Kearns roped back-to-back solo homers making it 5-2. Hernandez finished the game there though recording his first win of the year. John Lannan went 4 and 2/3 innings and gave up 3 runs on 8 hits and struck out 10, throwing 91 pitches. David Wright and Carlos Beltran led the offense for the Mets, Wright went 3-5 with a double and an RBI, and Beltran went 1-4 with 2 RBI. For the Nationals, Felipe Lopez and Austin Kearns's back to back homers were the main offense for the Nats.

Washington -- The Nationals lost a great ballgame to the Mets tonight. It was 2-1 with two outs in the ninth, runners on 2nd and 3rd for the Nats, but Ronnie Belliard struck out looking to end the ballgame. Johan Santana pitched a complete game, allowing 1 run on 7 hits. For the Nationals, Tim Redding pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 9 hits, and left the game with elbow pains. The Mets offense was supplied by Brian Schneider who went 2-4 with 2 RBI. For the Nationals, Felipe Lopez went 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
