Seattle Mariners @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Spring Training

Mariners win in pitchers duel

Mariners: 4
Diamondbacks: 2

Win: Fuentes
Save: Dickey
Loss: Petit
HR: C. Young
Beltre
Beltre

Adrian Beltre was the leader of the team today, at least offensively, as the power hitting third baseman slugged two homeruns today in a 4-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, while down 1-2 in the top of the ninth, Beltre "belted" one just over Chris Young's glove to tie the game up, after that, the team scored two more runs and R.A. Dickey went in to close the game. The pitching was quite good in this game too. Josh Johnson started the game, and went three solid innings while allowing no hits, no runs, and fanning one. Andrew Miller was not so fortunate, he struck out four in three innings, but did allow a two run homerun, that was his only blemish, as he just gave up two hits and walked one. Catch the Mariners in their final spring training game, next week.

J. Johnson (3 IP, 0 ER)
A. Miller (3 IP, 2 ER)
Dempster (1 & 2/3 IP, 0 ER)
Fuentes (0 & 1/3 IP, 0 ER)
Dickey (1 IP, 3 SO, 0 ER)

Haren (3 IP, 0 ER)
E. Jackson (3 IP, 1 ER)
Petit (2 & 1/3 IP, 3 ER)
Owings (0 & 2/3 IP, 0 ER)

Dickey is actually doing what my brother would say, and that is "beasting and feasting" that's like, the third time he struck out the side in a save opportunity, he'll probably be the setup man this year.

That's a stretch, we've got two solid closers in Fuentes and Dempster, c'mon, this is a big step, I mean, he was in AAA last year! :P

so I simulated the last game, and josh Johnson threw a perfect game until the eighth, and the computer didn't take him out.

Seattle Mariners @ Oakland Athletics
Spring Training

Mariners win in dominant outing by Johnson.

Mariners: 5
Athletics: 0

Win: J. Johnson
Save: X
Loss: DiNardo
HR: Dukes

Manager Joe Ullan had one final test for Josh Johnson, a contestant for the #5 spot in the rotation. Can you go the distance? Josh only had a rating of109 stamina. Otherwise known as a C, but had one of the most dominant outings in spring training history. Josh went 8 innings, allowing just two hits, the first coming in the inning prior, and striking out eleven, it's safe to say we know the Mariners #5 starter. The offence was gleaming too, largely led by the attacks by Commander Elijah Dukes, the Mariners scored five runs, three on a three run homerun by Commander Dukes himself, this is the end of spring training, the Mariners finished 3-1, and are primed to have a great season. Wait, hold on a second, this just in. Manager Joe Ullan has decided to use a 6-man rotation, the sixth man is reportedly Andrew Miller.

J. Johnson (8 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 11 SO)
Dempster (1 IP, 1 SO, 0 ER)

DiNardo (4 IP, 4 ER)
Harden (4 IP, 1 ER)

Mariners 2009 Lineup and Rotation

1. Ichiro (C)
2. O. Hudson (2B)
3. Guerrero (RF)
4. Beltre (3B)
5. Ibanez (LF)
6. Fields (DH)
7. R. Paulino (SS)
8. R. Sweeney (1B)
9. Dukes (CF)

1. Felix Hernandez
2. Zach Duke
3. Aaron Cook
4. Homer Bailey
5. Josh Johnson
6. Andrew Miller

Swingman: Adam Loewen
Long Reliever: Mark Lowe
Middle Reliever: Brian Fuentes
Situational Lefty: Dana Eveland
Mop-up Man: X
Set-up Man: R.A. Dickey
Closer: Ryan Dempster

I didn't even know this was still spring training, oops. But yeah, I'd say have Clement do fielding and then later have him work on 1B. By next season he should be ready to play there.

Alright, yeah, his fielding could use some work, E in fielding, E in error resistance, and C in arm strength. We have four catchers on the roster!

Seattle Mariners (0-0) @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (0-0)
Opening Day

Angels win on opening day with complete game by John Lackey and walkoff hit by Kotchman

Mariners: 4
Angels: 3

Win: Lackey (1-0)
Save: X
Loss: Dempster (0-1)
HR: Kotchman (1)
Beltre (1)

Los Angeles -- The Mariners 2008 saving struggles have carried on into the new year, as new acquisition Ryan Dempster "pulls a Putz" according to Manager Joe Ullan. Seattle tacked on two in the top of the ninth to pull ahead after being mostly shutout by the Angels ace John Lackey, in the bottom of the ninth, Ryan Dempster allowed a lead off double, who later scored on a single by Mike Napoli, Napoli then scored on a RBI double by Casey Kotchman to end the game and win it for Los Angeles. This is the 14th blown save if you combine the 2008 blown saves, and this one, as the Mariners can't seem to be able to close the lid of the jars of games.

Felix Hernandez (7 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 SO)
Adrian Beltre (3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI)

John Lackey (9 IP, 14 H, 4 ER, 1 SO)
Casey Kotchman (3-4, 2 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI)

why the hell do we have an 8-game series against the angels, I'll show every other game.

Seattle Mariners (1-1) @ Los Angeles Angels (1-1)
April 4th, 2009.

Mariners blanked as Garland hurls shutout.

Mariners: 0
Angels: 1

Win: Garland (1-0)
Save: X
Loss: Cook (0-1)
HR: X

Los Angeles -- The Mariners early season woes against the Angels have continued, as Seattle loses in a true pitchers duel. Aaron Cook made his regular season debut for the Seattle Mariners today, and gave up seven hits over eight innings while allowing just one run, that one run only scored due to a failed double play attempt, otherwise the M's #3 starter pitched like an ace, he would've gotten the complete game had his team scored runs. The Mariners, as a team, left ELEVEN runners on base, as no one was able to drive them in, even having a bases loading scenario with no outs. Manager Joe Ullan is reportedly very disappointed in his ball club and has scheduled a meeting to talk about the past game, in which Garland struggled, but was just plain lucky.

Aaron Cook (8 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 3 SO)
Raul Ibanez (1-4, 1 2B)

Jon Garland (9 IP, 9 H, 0 ER, 2 SO)
Mike Napoli (0-3, 1 RBI)

Aaron Cook is disappointed his new team lost, but promises that with run support, he will lead the team to many wins.

Seattle Mariners (1-3) @ Los Angeles Angels (3-1)
April 6th, 2009.

Mariners lose as Ryan Dempster gives up four runs in seventh.

Mariners: 6
Angels: 9

Win: Moseley (1-0)
Save: F. Rodriguez (2)
Loss: Dempster (0-2)
HR: Beltre (3)
Willingham (2)

Ryan Dempster, or Ryan "Dumpster" just can't get it together, as he allowed four runs in the bottom of the seventh to allow the Angels to retake the lead, and they would keep it for the rest of the day as they move to 4-1, and are now on a three game winning streak. The biggest concern for the day was Josh Johnson, the tall southpaw pitched 4 innings and left after his second pitch in the fifth due to an unknown arm injury, it wasn't due to a high pitch count and he just injured himself Joe Ullan reports. Other than that, the Mariners had another solid day, their only weak point being Ryan Dempster, who keeps trying to get it together. Adrian Beltre was part of the offensive brigade today, going 3-5, with a homer and 3 RBI as he now has three homeruns in the series so far.

Josh Johnson (4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 SO)
Adrian Beltre (3-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI,1 R)

Joe Saunders (5 IP, 12 H, 6 ER, 2 SO)
Cesar Izturis (2-4, 1 2B, 3 RBI)

wow, the angels pitching is stacked. also, josh is ok, it's kinda weird he just left though

Seattle Mariners (1-4) @ Los Angeles Angels (4-1)
April 8th, 2009.

Mariners break losing steak, Guerrero hits first Mariners homer.

Mariners: 7
Angels: 4

Win: F. Hernandez (1-0)
Save: Dickey (2)
Loss: Lackey (1-1)
HR: G. Anderson (1)
Guerrero (1)

Los Angeles -- "At last, they've broken their losing streak!" Are the words of hall of fame broadcaster Jack Merluzzi, as the Mariners have in fact, snapped a three game losing slide inflicted upon them by the Holy Halos, as they win 7-4. Highlights were Vladimir Guerrero hitting his first homerun with the Seattle Mariners, and Felix Hernandez taking a perfect game up until the fifth, when he gave up four runs yet still won. Ryan Dempster made an appearance today, going two strong innings without allowing a run, he states that this is just step one, and he will be an allstar reliever this year. John Lackey, who pitched a complete game against the Mariners in this first game of this eight game series, struggled, as he allowed 5 runs over just five innings to earn his first loss of the season

Felix Hernandez (6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 SO)
Raul Ibanez (3-4, 1 2B, 3 RBI)

John Lackey (5 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 0 SO)
Garrett Anderson (1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI)

(Simulated the last game of the series.)

Record: (3-5)

1st: Oakland Athletics (6-2)
2nd: Los Angeles Angels (5-3)
3rd: Seattle Mariners (3-5)
4th: Texas Rangers (2-6)

Seattle Mariners (3-5) @ Texas Rangers (2-6)
April 10th, 2009.

Mariners win in complete game by Aaron Cook

Mariners: 7
Rangers: 3

Win: Cook (1-1)
Save: X
Loss: Jennings (0-2)
HR: C. Jackson (2) (1), (2)
Guerrero (3)
Beltre (4)
Ibanez (2)
Fields (1)

Texas -- The longball was a source of pride for the Seattle Mariners, as the club "clubbed" four out of the ball park to lead themselves to a 7-3 victory over the struggling Texas Rangers. Aaron Cook followed up his one run, eight inning performance from his last start with an even greater outing, as he went the distance, tossing nine innings and allowing just three runs for a quality start, and a complete game. The Mariners send Homer Bailey to the mound tomorrow as he comes off a disastrous start in which he allowed seven runs over just four innings of work.

Aaron Cook (9 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 2 SO)
Raul Ibanez (3-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI)

Jason Jennings (5 IP, 11 H, 6 ER, 0 SO)
Conor Jackson (3-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R)

Record: (5-6)

1st: Oakland Athletics (8-3)
2nd: Los Angeles Angels (6-5)
3rd: Seattle Mariners (5-6)
