Wow, this is pretty unique! Certainly makes for an interesting read.

Nice to see Cole's locking up most of these top prospects.

Not locking them up, unfortunately, but rising in stock. Also, as I found out, the difference wasn't as big as I'd hoped in many cases... :(

I'd be lying to you if I told you I wasn't very intrigued by this log.

Love your writing style, sjax. Keep it up.

Heh, thanks, and nice quote. Glad you guys approve of the style of the log here, looks like my attempts to keep things interesting are succeeding.

By the way, how does recruiting work on there? Because I'm considering getting it soon.

It's a long process, but basically you build a board of 35 players (based on team needs, to a small extent), and you can scout them to gain insight on stats, call them to raise and gauge interest (based on a variety of factors), make promises to them, etc. Over time players will commit, shift interests, etc, and it's your job to sift through all this to nab the players you want. It's definitely a great experience and challenge thus far, doing it for the first time, and it's gotten me hooked on Dynasty rather than Road to Glory, which is what I started on.

ESPN UPDATE:

They started out a little slow for sure, falling behind 3-7 early against San Diego State in the away opener for Washington. After that, though, it was all downhill for the Aztecs... or just a load of fun for the Huskies and their fans.

They went on a complete rampage after SDSU's score, which was set up by a defensive back tripping on a fly route by the opposing receiver. Washington managed a very quick scoring drive (2 plays and 82 yards) that netted Seth Brown a 2-yard rushing TD, then Player of the Game Joe McCarty picked off Anthony Sands to set up a Tim Johnson scoring toss. Just 27 seconds later, McCarty picked Sands off AGAIN with a beautiful one-handed catch from behind him, and returned it 37 yards for the score. After ANOTHER INT, Tim Johnson hurled a Hail Mary that traveled 60 yards in the air... and landed in the arms of Sam Sampson to make it 31-7 at the half.

The game ended 45-16, with McCarty netting a 3rd interception, Tim Johnson throwing for 317 yards (18-24), 3 TD's and 1 INT, and Seth Brown rushing for 158 yards on 25 carries (good for an average of 6.3 yards per rush). Johnson's favorite target all day was Mike Morris, the TE, who caught 7 balls for 113 yards and a late TD. All in all, an impressive showing for Washington, as their defense stymied the Aztecs with numerous styles of blitzes and mixes between man and zone coverage all game long, and their offense was firing on all cylinders, land and air.

1st: 3-0
2nd: 28-7
3rd: 7-9
4th: 7-0

Final: UW --- 45-16 --- SDSU

P.S. Ah yes, and in other news, #9 Michigan upset #1 Alabama, which will make USC the new #1.

"Sir, you do realize that a quarter of this list is new players!"

Jaxon, the ever-frenetic assistant, had just been handed the updated recruiting board, from the desk of Cole Marceau. Sure enough, 9 of the 35 players hadn't been on it just the week before.

"Of course I do. I'm adjusting my strategy. I cut 9 players that we had no chance of nabbing, and shot for guys who've been underrecruited or simply have more potential. I'm not rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, Jaxon," Cole replied. He took the list back when it was handed to him, and sat back in his incredibly comfortable mesh chair. He wasn't one for the fancy leather recliner or anything of that nature. "Plus, Parks has us in his Top 3 now. If we can get him, then I'm sure we can get several other big names."

Parks had, however, been offered a scholarship by BYU, said a source of his, and this was troublesome. Cole would have preferred to wait a little bit on the scholarships, but at this point he was going to have to offer a few out, especially to his prized endeavor.

"Oh, and by the way, Stephen Stone's getting very close to committing. I think a visit to Seattle should sway him enough for us to fill our need at Free Safety... anyways, wanna stick around for a couple calls?"

Without feeling much of a choice, Jaxon nodded. He could use the observation anyways, if his goal of reaching this position in the future was to be fulfilled.

Cole grinned, then keyed in the number for Mike Ware, the only Fullback on their list. Ware was near the top of a very weak Fullback class, and had Washington at a pretty distant #1.

Cole only gave Ware 10 minutes, but he did guarantee him that Washington would play a game close to home, and shot the breeze enough to make Ware sound just a bit more interested... and a bit closer to committing.

"Now here's the fun one," Cole said, dialing Jacob Bell's number. Bell was one of the highest-rated HB's in the nation, and though Washington was probably in his Top 5, they had a ways to go for really make a dent in his radar.

First, they talked about whatever Bell had to discuss, which ended up revealing his interest in playing for a championship contender. "That can be arranged..." thought Cole as they segued into the next topic: what he thought about academics.

Turns out he thought very highly of it. This was a relief for Marceau, as the other strengths Washington had weren't very high on Bell's list of priorities. This was at least one chip for him. Finally, they reached the closing parts of the conversation, and Cole had one last thing to throw in.

"Well Jacob, I'm definitely honored that you've got us in the running for colleges, and I've got a lot of faith in you, so I'll definitely keep in touch. If you have any questions or anything, let me know, and if a scholarship would get us any higher on your list, then I'm open to work things out. Whatever it takes to get a fine student-athlete like yourself in our program."

A few seconds later he hung up, and Jaxon looked up at Cole.

"Guy's a 5-star recruit, Jaxon. Gotta do what I can to nail him if we've got a chance," Cole simply said, and wrote an annotation or two next to Bell's name on the list before moving on to the next call.

I-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-I

By the way, I got my first commitment: Brett White, a MLB (my highest need, gotta recruit 2) and 3-star recruit (67 OVR) committed instantly when I offered him a scholarship. :D

Hmm, looks like you're getting a little closer to Bell. I'm interested to see what happens there.

Really liking this recruiting system you have here, sjax.

Is White any good? He's only 67 ovr. so I'm wondering why you would go after him. And also, is there a limited amount of scholarships you can give out? If so that would make for some tough decisions.

Well, he's going to be a Freshman (and can be redshirted), so he'll have time to develop. Plus, as Washington, he won't be able to get all the 5-star recruits that Oregon and USC can

Yeah, Bell's got us at #5 right now but I think we might have moved up a little. I'll see in a second.

I needed 2 MLB's, and 67 OVR = 3-star recruit, and a bit better than most of the other guys I had on there. He'll obviously develop a good bit.

And yes, only 25 scholarships.

Yes, and that's why I like using Washington. Not too small, not too big. Although Bell is actually a 5-star prospect... I have 3 that I actually went/am going after. One might have just dumped me though, not sure...

EDIT: Nope, and we went from 9th to 5th on his list, plus he wants a visit. YUSH.

It was not an inspiring start for the Huskies by any means.

Oklahoma State, #20 in the nation, started with a FG, their no-huddle offense running rampant. Then, on the second play from scrimmage, Tim Johnson threw a pick on a 20-yd attempt to hit his #2 WR on a post route. The Cowboys drove a good bit before their running stalled and a sack, settling for another field goal. After a drive that ended on a failed 4th down conversion, Oklahoma State had another drive-and-stall, hitting a 3rd FG (of 48 yards). This time, the Huskies managed to get into the red zone on a clutch 4th down completion to Bush, then a 22 yard catch on a corner route by Sampson.

And then, from the 11, Johnson threw to Bush on a curl route... and got picked again! Not only that, but after finally forcing a punt out of OSU, Johnson took a shot over the middle to his TE and got a THIRD INT to his name in the half alone! Oklahoma State capitalized with a touchdown (and later a FG) before the half ended, and it was 19-0 at the break.

(A/N: The clock went REALLY screwy for the FG. They got the ball with 12 seconds left at their own 30, and somehow got tackled inbounds two or three times (with no TOs) and had the clock stop before a 47 yard FG. I'm either missing something or it was cheating. XD)

Washington came out of the half invigorated, though, and through smart West Coast passing and consistent running Washington finally made it to the red zone again, where Seth Brown scored on a 5-yard toss, despite being hit by 3 or 4 players on the Cowboys' defense at the 1.

Oklahoma State started their half with a 19 yard run, but a 3 and out after that, leading to... a terrible decision by Johnson to throw deep under pressure and a 4th pick. OSU made it the the Huskies' 40 without much trouble, and then the play that changed the game came up.

Up 19-7, William Morton threw the ball to a receiver on a drag route, tightly covered by Joe McCarty. McCarty had the inside track on Sullivan, and he took full advantage of it when the ball came his way. He snagged it as if he were the intended target and took off towards the right sideline with a lot of green in front of him. WR Weiss quickly got an angle on him, as did the OSU halfback, but McCarty cut to the sideline to get away, then back the other direction to avoid a dive by the HB. Yes, Joe McCarty got his 2nd pick six of the season, this one a spectacular 70-yarder that cut the deficit to 19-14 with 1:43 left in the 3rd.

OSU was forced to punt the ball to WU with :25 in the 3rd (6 minute quarters), and this was to be the deciding drive. A first down plus a 15 yard facemask set Washington up at their own 40 or so, and through short runs and short passes they drove, but reached 4th and 3 at the Cowboys' 40. Johnson called for Slants, the play that had carried them all day, and without thinking he grabbed the ball from the center and whipped it to Sam Sampson, the slot receiver. It barely got there before the defender did, and it was a first down on a gutsy call, throwing it down the middle like that. Up-the-gut running from Seth Brown and Parham had Washington closer and closer, and with a perfect throw-and-catch from Johnson to Sampson on a drag route Washington had dink-and-dunked their way to the 2 yard line with 90 seconds to play.

And then Seth Brown punched it in through a hole so big a SUV could have driven through it.

And the home crowd went absolutely berserk. Washington had been down 19-0 at the half and with 1:06 left they were leading 22-19, after a 2-point conversion on a toss play.

Oklahoma State, devastated, had nothing left in the tank. They started with a run that left them with a 2nd and 13, and from their own 33, Morton forced a ball towards the sideline that, fittingly, was expertly picked off with a leaping catch.

In an incredible comeback win, Washington adjusts their playcalling to stop relying on the deep balls and comes out on top, 22-19, over the 20th ranked team in the nation to please the fans in their home opener. Plus, with Washington being #26 in the nation (by virtue of votes in the polls), they'll go into Week 4 of the season with a number attached to their name.

1st: 6-0
2nd: 13-0
3rd: 0-14
4th: 0-8
Final: OSU --- 19-22 --- WU
