Thats weird, because in my second year in life mode (2009) I used Darryl and made 1.5 mil. The next year (2010) I used Jacob and had full friendship stars with him and made 3 mil. And it has increased every year till my fifth year (current). I think that the stars do have something to do with the contract.

1st year-$350,000(automatic)
2nd year-$1,500,000(Darryl)
3rd year-$3,500,000(Jacob)
4th year-$5,000,000(Jacob)
5th year(current)-$9,500,000(Jacob)

All of these are estimated.

with my pitcher before i restarted him, i used darryl with only 2 or 3stars and i still got like 1.2mil or so. with 5 stars i was barely able to get 1.4mil.

they should have both the stars and your stats determine your pay, not it being something random.

It does seem random, because in that second year (1.5 mil) I only went 10-5.

I got 30million by the 4th year, I was like 29-2 (less than 3), since it was the max i didn't need max stars to get a high contact though i started slow

Just got my biggest contract yet, on my fourth year got almost 5 million.

I think you get Darryl after you make an All-Star game roster/appearance.

You get Jacob for that and he sucks

you get jacob AFTER the all star game, i think he's talking about BEFORE the all star game when you get chosen to play in it

In my opinion, Jacob doesn't suck. He does only negotiate once, but usually what he gets is a pretty good contract.

Got 30 mil for my 3rd year from Matthew. Was on the first round.

I got Michael after the 2008 season ended, Darryl after the 2009 season (World Series MVP, hitter of the year award), and Jacob after the All-Star game in year 4 (first time I got coach's selection and actually got on the AS team).

There is definitely some randomness to the contract negotiations if you save right before the week you pick your agent (end of October I think) and then reload a few times. I'm unclear on how friendship levels affect things overall, but I do know from experimenting with reloading that there is a high, medium, and low starting offer for each agent (of course with Jacob all you get is the one shot). In my experience, the best offer Michael will get will be the first one - but it could be that I've only got 1 star with him. Invariably the second and beyond offers decrease. With Matthew, who I have 5 stars with, if I get the low or medium offer the first time I'll get better offers 2-3 more times. If I get the high offer first, I might get a slightly higher offer on the second try, but after that the offers will decrease. With Darryl, who I've got 3.5 stars with), it's the same as with Matthew except the initial low offer will be lower than Matthew's and the initial high offer will be higher than Matthew's. He always gets a better offer on the second try, but if he got the high initial offer it will start decreasing after that.

But last night I finished 2013 and did more playing around with reloading than usual because it was my first experience with free agency and I just wanted to see how the mechanics of it all worked. Darryl was pretty consistent in getting a starting offer of $14.3 million or $15.7 million (low and medium I believe), and Matthew's low, medium, and high initial offers were $13.8, $15.5, and $16.1). I ran Jacob through once, and it was $8.3 (a big decrease over the $10.5 I was already making). I ran Michael through a couple of times, and his initial offer one time was $13.6 and another time $12.3). I spent most of my time comparing Matthew 5 star against Darryl 3.5 star, both with contract negotiations and free agency. If Darryl started with the low initial offer ($14.3), he'd consistently go up to $15.7 on the second try and $16.something on the third try before getting a decrease on the 4th try. If he got $15.7 on the first try, he'd get $16.7 or so on the second try and then the third try would either jump to $18.1 or decrease. If Matthew started at the low $13.8, he'd jump to $15.5, then $16.1, and finally $16.7 on the last try. If he started at the medium $15.5 he'd jump to $16.7 on the second try, $17.something on the third try, then he hit $19.5 on the last try or declined. If he started at the high $16.1 (only saw that twice) he went to $17.something on the second try and then down on the third try (probably could have gotten the $19.5 in this situation as well), or went down on the second try.

Keep in mind that I don't reload for the highest salary, I'm doing it more just to collect info. In 3 out of 6 years the offer I ended up accepting was not the highest I'd gotten in different reload scenarios.

I guess all of this long winded discussion in this post is just to say that I think I've pretty well pegged a pattern to the negotiations. There were some slight fluctuations to the numbers above in that it wasn't exactly only 3-4 different salary figures, but the variations were fairly slight. I *think* friendship level probably influences what the initial low, medium, and high offers are (and consequently the range of offers you can get). But from what I can tell, there does appear to be three basic starting offer scenarios with each agent and then subsequent offers vary based on those and agent competency (and perhaps friendship level).

I would help as I maxed out every agent right before the end of 2009. Problem was that every agent got me 30 mil for 2010 on the first try so I couldn't really get any stats.

Since my player had now peaked his skills in CON, RUN SPD, and FLD, and I got my culture skill up to A so I could get the benefit of the top end books, I should be able spend more time sucking up to agents in 2014. At minimum I'll get Darryl to 5 stars, and see about getting Jacob up there as well.

Sounds like you're going to have the same problem as me. Every agent will get you 1yr 30 mil contract.
