Todays game was a close seesaw battle that ended up going in the Warriors favor with a 4-3 win over the Pawtucket Mustangs. Durvisuski got the start today and did a pretty good job for the most part besides a few mistake pitches that got taken deep. Back up outfielder Denorfia got his first HR of the season today, he went 1-2 with a 2-run home run and a walk. Patrick Star came in and tried to get a hold but instead a rare mistake pitch was hit a mile by Uggla and the game was tied yet again 3-3. In the 8th though Ryan Howard broke out of his mini slump and hit a bomb to center field, his 51st on the year to make it 4-3. Otto Rocket, the hard throwing closer came in for his 18th save and got a big 2 strikeouts after a lead off error by denorfia. The Warriors bats have seemed to cool down a little but still were able to maintain their win streak, which is now up to 4.

Key Players
Howard- 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Ankiel- 3-4, 1 2B, 2 Runs
Denorfia- 1-2, 1 HR, 2 RBI

Condrey got the win today and Otto Rocket got his 19th save as the Warriors sweep the Mustangs and extend their winning streak to 5. The Scranton Times interviewed Ryan Howard after the game. "I feel bad we couldn't get the win for Screws, he pitches great every start and it seems like he is always getting no decisions, we have to find a way to reward him for his efforts" he said. BREAKING NEWS!!!!

The Scranton Warriors have signed free agent Quincy Portis to a major league contract, his starting salary will be 2280. He is expected to be the backup left fielder and give Ryan Braun some days off. GM of the Warriors has not ruled out the option of starting him at RF, "We really like the way he played in the minor leagues, thats why we were quick to give him a deal. We just have to see where he fits best". The Warriors now face a tough decision to see if they want to let someone else go because the roster is now loaded with outfielders. Rob Scranton, the owner of the Warriors has looked into getting rid of Starter Jim Oilhands if he does not start improving. Rob Scranton had this to say about that very thing "Jim Oilhands has had a great year and a half with us but it might be time to start looking in a different direction, you can't just go out there as a starter and only get 3-4 innings every 5th or 6th day, you just can't". Quincy Portis was introduced to the team in a news conference at the Warrior's home stadium. Below is the Q&A that went down at that very conference.

Reporter: "So Portis, what do you plan on bringing to a team that already seems to be clicking in every way?"

Portis: "I hope to bring a lot of energy to the field, and I hope to do whatever is asked of me"

Reporter: "How do you feel about people talking about you being the reason that Jim Oilhands might be traded for a player that doesn't have a very big salary?"

Portis:"I didn't come to take anyones spot, Jim Oilhands is a wonderful pitcher but if i'm the reason that he gets traded I want to be the first to say that i'm sorry and i wish him the best wherever he ends up"

Reporter: "What are your main goals in your rookie season?"

Portis: "I plan on getting limited playing time at best so my main goal is to hit around .250 with around 15-20 RBI's and 5 home runs"

Reporter: "How would you describe your skill set, do you think you are a power guy, contact guy, etc.?"

Portis: " I think i'm a power guy to be honest, i've struggled quite a bit in my career with making contact but when i do, it seems to go a long way"

We will see how things work out for this 20 year old outfielder. we will keep you updated on the Jim Oilhands news. Thanks for tuning in to a Scranton Warrior News Update, c'ya next time.

Rookie Outfielder Quincy Portis made his independent league debut today in centerfield, and J.Oilhands might have made his last start in a Warriors uniform in a 3-2 loss to the Knights, their first loss to them this season. Oilhands gave up 2 quick runs in the first inning which left the Warrior's manager shaking his head. Quincy Portis was thrown into some huge pressure situations in this game, he ended up going 1-5 with a stolen base and a run scored, Portis came up to bat with bases loaded in the 7th inning in a 3-1 game but hit a line shot to the right fielder to end the inning. In the bottom of the 9th Greene led off with a home run to make it 3-2, the Warriors would end up having runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs with Portis up to bat. The count was 2-1 when he saw a pitch he thought he could hit, but all he could do was hit it softly to the 2nd baseman for the last out of the game. The Warriors hope to bounce back from this tough loss.

Jim Oilhands has been demoted to the minor leagues while the GM and Owner talk about trading him or keeping him and waiting out these tough times. Hochevar has been promoted to add a extra arm in the bullpen. It still hasn't been determined who will take over Oilhands starting role. Last year Oilhands had a 2.42 ERA with a 14-7 record in 29 starts. he also pitched one complete game shut out. he struck out 173 in 159.2 innings pitched. This year however, he has a 4.48 ERA with a 3-4 record in 14 starts. He only has 3 quality starts so far on the year.
