Youtube videos are very helpful.

Now that I see how and basically when to powerslide, maybe three stars ARE possible. Still, very hard though. On the videos you can see that these people run through the course flawlessly. Each lap identical to the next.

It takes a lot of practice to master the turns like that. I don't know if I have the time to get THAT good with Mlbpp 08' just around the corner. The good thing is, Mario Kart games are usually good for two or three yrs before they finally come out with a new one.

Can't wait to play online when I finally get a wireless router. Hopefully its not consumed with a bunch of pros. Even if it is, the game keeps it pretty close, giving everyone a chance. After all, no matter how good you are, you can't control the randomness. It's what I hate when I'm winning, and love when I'm losing.

Nah dude there's plenty of newbies on the net, but there are a few pros. Last time I played a four-rounder I got 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st with little problem.

What's the trick to getting the rocket start? I've experimented with holding down the accelerator at different points of the countdown, but can't get it consistently. The manual is extremely vague about how to do it.

I have had the most success getting the rocket start by holding down the gas after the number 2 flashes off the screen.

In every Mario Kart, it has always been after the second light.

In this one, however, you can get a different amount of boost depending on how accurately you press the button.

Basically, I pretend there are five lights. Count to five with the first light being one, and the second light being three. On four, press and hold the button.

Unlike other Mario Kart games, your boost has three different strengths -- the earlier you hold the button (and still get the boost) the stronger your boost will be. There's also a middle strength, which is most common, and a weak boost, which is when you hold the button late, but still get a boost. If you hold it too long you burn out, and if you don't hold it at all you launch normally.

The way I do it is push the button as you HEAR the second beep. Don't match the sound of the beep with the visual of the 2, you want your engine revving as the sound of the beep dissipates.

Ahh...

Good tip. That explains why I don't get the maximum boost all the time. I usually do rev my engine before it starts though (tapping the button because I'm being impatient) therefore giving me a better boost.

Never noticed that. Thanks.

I have a two Star ranking in almost everything, including mirror mode. It's a fun and competitive game. When we play versus mode we put it on Aggressive weaponry, Hard Mode at 150cc

I can't beat 150cc. I always get 4-8th place.

Finally picked Mario Kart up last week. To answer my own question from above, my 9 year old holds his own just fine. I haven't seen him do any 150cc races yet, but he wins a good percentage of 100cc races against the CPU opponents. My 6 year old doesn't do as well, she's getting better but she still crashes too much to finish in the top half of the pack of a race. But she's still having a lot of fun, and it's only a matter of practice keeping the kart on the track :)

My code is ZNK-SLR9-6AAQ-4F3

I'm confused by your friend code wyl. there is no way to enter letters on a friend code. :?
