Sanchez Leads Melonheads to Big Win

The Melonheads got out to an early lead in their game against the Rockets and never looked back, eventually winning 8-2. The scoring was started in the first, when Pete Wheeler led things off with a single and advanced to second on a hit and run. Pablo Sanchez took the first pitch he saw to left-center for a run-scoring triple, and the Melonheads were up 1-0.

The Melonheads came up in the top of the third and led things off with a Kenny Kawaguchi single. Pete Wheeler collected his second hit of the day, and Dante Robinson walked, loading the bases for the very dangerous Pablo Sanchez. With the count at 2-1, Sanchez turned on an inside fastball, sending the ball way over the left field fence for a grand slam. Doubles by Kiesha Phillips and Achmed Khan later in the inning brought home another run, and it was 6-0 Melonheads.

Rockets left fielder Eric Lebeaux hit a bomb over the left field wall in the bottom of the third, but the Melonheads still led by 5.

With the score still at 6-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Olga Tollefson hit a solo shot to right field, but Dante Robinson retaliated with his first homer of the season, and it was 7-2. Pablo Sanchez then took the first pitch he saw out of the park, extending the Melonheads' lead to a comfortable 6 runs, where it would stay for the remainder of the game. Kenny Kawaguchi went all 9 innings and got the win, while player of the game was awarded to Pablo Sanchez, who went 4-4 and drove in six.

The Melonheads are still ahead of the Monsters by one game and will play the White Fishes in their next match-up.
