Slow and steady wins the race, right? I threw all curves, managing 66 pitches before I started to tire. Then I remembered hearing something about knuckleballs causing less stress, so I tried it. I liked it so I threw a few more, and before I knew it, Coach was telling me I had thrown 100 pitches. I stopped, then the rest of the day was a blur. I went home, ate dinner, then slept for, like, 13 hours.

I decided I would go into town, maybe buy something, maybe just see what was going on. I got into town and some lady approached me. "Hey, do you want a ticket into the Unlucky Gamble?" she asked. "How much?" "$6.66 per ticket." "I'll take 2." "Okay, $13" she said. I paid her. "We're having the raffle in 5 minutes!" she told me. I went over to a little shop and bought a candy bar and a Pepsi. I ran out and she announced, "The winners are, third place- 666, second place- 013, first place- 777!" 777? That was me! I went up to the counter. "I'm ticket 777!" I said as I handed her the ticket. "Okay, first prize is $300, a Recovery Necklace, and a Gambler's Ticket!" "Wow, thanks," I told her. I went home. I was hungry, even after the Twix.

I grilled some steaks for my parents and I. I ate mine and it was delicious! I left my parents' on the grill and went to my room to play a game on my phone. The next day was Sunday, and we went to church as usual. When we got back we ate lunch and then I watched TV for pretty much the rest of the day, until dinner, then afterwards I just went to sleep. The next day was Monday. The day whizzed by until practice.

I decided to focus on boosting up my stamina in preparation for our first game, against Flint, the next Tuesday. Coach came over to us at the end of practice. "Techer, you've earned it. You're our starting pitcher Tuesday. Matt, you'll be our #2." I was ecstatic!

I jumped up and down in celebration. I thanked Coach and went home. The rest of the week sped by, as did the weekend, and before I knew it, it was Monday. I got to practice and Matt was talking with Coach. I decided to just practice today, but when I got over there a pitching coach was waiting. "We're going to work on your breaking balls, okay?" I said sure.

"I think my curve needs some work," I said. "Okay, throw one to me." I did so. "Are you trying to throw it slow?" "Yeah, why?" "It actually increases the break on your pitch. Let's see something." He told me to grip the ball like I did for a curve. I did. He told me to keep throwing curves to him, and gave me some pointers. Before I knew it, my curve looked a lot better! I went home after practice and rested up for the game the next day.
