Does anyone have any good strategies for timing your hits. I'm getting sick of getting the perfect pitch to hit to the opposite field, then accidentally swing too early and pull the ball for a ground ball or fly out.

This may sound stupid... but PRACTICE actually helped me improve my batting skills and allowed me to actually bat at the level I pitched (although the 2008 game I'll have to do some relearning).

Get yourself into a rhythm at the plate with the same guy and perhaps even the same pitch type, even if it's just that darn fastball you can't seem to catch up on.

Practice makes perfect... that's why there's batting practice before games :D

I've always just been a go the other way hitter in this game, except when hitting for power. When I use contact swing I usually go the other way or up the middle, a little frustrating, but I may try out the practice technique.

I'm the same way, and If I want a home run, my best area of the strike zone is up or up and in for some reason.

I agree with the up and in. It seems like every time they pitch me low, or especially low and away, I ground out or foul it off. Give me something high in the zone, though, and it's going into the outfield most of the time.

I mostly make lefties and the player I use most is on the Astros in My Life. I seem to do really well with the outer half of the plate and anything down as well. I just slap it over the short porch in left so that's where I make my living. For whatever reason, I'm really late on stuff up in the zone and inside and just pop it up. If I do get around on it, I usually yank it foul.

I have to say that I think my approach comes from how I actually play baseball. When I'm batting in real life, I usually hit it the other way. The only times I don't are when I hear teams saying I can't catch up to the fastball I rip it down the left field line(I bat right handed) just to prove them wrong. But, most of my homeruns are pulled because I'm being very aggressive.
