Summary

The TV Thief is a series of events in Success Mode 2008.

Events

1st Event: Thief on News (Random)

Chief learns there is a thief on the loose, and gets a choice of trying to catch him.

  • Look for the thief. - Energy +2, chance of Clutch ability increase.
  • Do not look for the thief. - Energy -2, chance of Clutch ability decreasing.

2nd Event: Marvin's Tip (Free Time)

The second event is triggered by visiting a Free Time 2008 location. The location must not have characters or character events, otherwise the TV Thief event will not trigger. Additionally, the player must choose Go see a movie. if the location is the Street.

After getting the "standard" event for that location, Marvin will come up to Chief and gives him information on where the TV thief was last sighted.

  • Energy +2

3rd Event: Catching the Thief (Free Time)

Visiting the location Marvin gave in the second event will trigger the third TV Thief event. As in the second event, the location must not have characters or character events, otherwise the TV Thief event will not trigger. Also like the second event, the player must choose Go see a movie. if the location is the Street.

After getting the "standard" event for that location, Chief runs into Sittch, who apparently is also on the TV Thief's tail. He gives Chief information on the Thief's whereabouts, after which the Chief has 4 directions to choose from.

Correct choice of directions are as follows:

  • He ran North - Go West
  • He ran West - Go North
  • He ran East - Go South
  • He ran South - Go East


  • Choose correct direction - Chief spots the Thief and has a chance of catching him. Success rate may be determined by Arm Strength for fielders and Top Speed / Control for pitchers.
    • Successful attempt: Concludes arc and Chief gets reward money (see below).
      • Chance of Throwing 4.
      • Additionally, if caught on the first week after 1st Event: Cannon Arm, {11 Strength 11 Technique 22 Quickness} Experience Points each.
    • Unsuccessful attempt: The thief gets away, and event progression starts over from the 2nd Event.
  • Choose incorrect direction - The thief is nowhere in sight and the event progression starts over from the 2nd Event.


Reward Money

The reward money is determined by the number of weeks it took to catch the Thief since hearing about it on the news. Starting at $1575 for catching the Thief on the 1st week, the reward decreases $75 for every week afterward. After the 21st week, the reward gets fixed to $75 and goes no lower.
