Abbreviated Mode, sometimes referred to as Shortcut Mode, is a success mode option that reduces the some game sequences to allow for quicker replays (and a lot less button mashing to traverse long dialogue).

This mode is unlocked once you successfully get into the majors and create a character (doesn't have to be saved, but you must save your PROFILE afterwards to save the game completion).

The player or gameplay introductory sequences will be shortened to one-liners, or omitted entirely. For example, instead of the entire opening week sequence, you have Marvin and the player with Robert in the locker room and the line "Marvin and <player> join the baseball team." Introduction to the secondary skills are omitted (you do miss out on the very small skill increase, but it is deemed negligible by most veteran players).

Sequences that involve fate cards or decision making will give you a brief description of the situation and question before popping up the fate cards or selection box for your decision.

When starting success mode, and after you complete the initial set up of you character, you are asked whether to use "Shortcut Mode" or not. You can always set this option on or off in the Game Options menu at the Main Command screen.
