The year is 2007. In July, journalist Benny Leo published an article publicly criticizing the work of Bud Selig, and started a petition of MLB players willing to leave MLB in favor of a new league. At first, just a few people signed. But soon, pitcher Roy Halladay stated he would be willing to join, and other stars said they'd follow suit. By September, almost the entire league had decided to jump from the MLB to Benny's new league. On October 1, the MLBPA met and decided to boycott the playoffs unless Bud Selig made the changes Benny had called for. Selig refused, and the players held out. By December, almost every player in the MLB had voided their MLB contracts. Selig was out of business, and the MLB was history. It was time for the players to form...

A WHOLE NEW LEAGUE

Dream Draft Results

BLBL HEADQUARTERS--Today may be the happiest day of a Las Vegas sports fan's life. Not only has a BLBL team been confirmed for Las Vegas, but they received the number 1 pick in the Dream Draft, selecting BLBL poster boy Roy Halladay. The Vegas team, headed by local businessman Teddy Behr, would focus on pitching and catching, choosing those positions in 5 of their first six picks. The full roster, and the teams and divisions, will be revealed to the media shortly.

Opening Day 2008

ONEUPSMANSHIP: Late Rally Falls Short, Matsuzaka Goes 9 For Potatoes

LAS VEGAS--The season opener for the Rebels fell short of expectations today. #1 Overall pick Roy Halladay gave up 3 runs in 8 innings, but it was too much as Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched a 2-run complete game for the Garden City Potatoes. Jason Giambi and Evan Longoria hit home runs for the GCP. Ryan Braun was the hitting hero for the Rebs, going 2-4 with an RBI and a run. The Rebs will play one more against the Potatoes, and then host the Wolverines for three games.

THE RIGHT STUFF: Rebs Hang On Despite 3 Wolverine HRs

LAS VEGAS--The Las Vegas Rebels beat the San Antonio Wolverines today in a wild game. The Rebs had a 7-1 lead after 4, but would surrender four more runs in the next 5 innings. David Ortiz hit a homer for the Wolverines and Prince Fielder hit two, but it wasn't enough. In the ninth inning, after Oliveros gave up one rum, closer Kobayashi came in to shut the door for his first save of the year. The Rebs now leave Vegas for Garden City to play four against the Potatoes.

BULLPEN SUPERNOVA -- Rosario, Kobayashi Allow 5, Blow Lead In Ninth

GARDEN CITY--The Rebels lost today, and this easily could have been a victory if it weren't for some clutch batting from the Potatoes in the late innings. With an 8-4 lead in the ninth, Rebels manager Teddy Behr thought he could rest comfortably on his set-up man, Rosario. When he gave up a 3-run homer to Evan Longoria, Teddy brought in the closer, Kobayashi, to seal the deal. The Man from Japan couldn't pull it off, however, as Gotay hit a two-run double to win the stunner in Garden City. Ryan Braun hit his first home run of the season today, but Jason Giambi hit his second home run--both against Las Vegas. The Rebs now travel back home to face the Turkeys at Cashman Field.
