CUBS (7-8) at REDS (7-8)
Today the 4th place Reds started their quest to reclaim first place, a position held by the 10-5 Astros, but was no easy task. They were up against Pedro Martinez himself. Luckily, the Reds had an ace on their side too, curveballer Bronson Arroyo. The Reds struck first, in the second inning, when Arroyo hit a 2-run double to left field. In the 3rd, shoddy defense by the Reds led to RBIs by Beattie and Esteban German. Votto hit a double to pick up a ribbie, and Cairo followed suit with an RBI of his own. Martinez left the game in the 5th, but not before Cairo knocked in another runner. Arroyo left after 6 innings giving up 2 runs and 6 hits, with 8 Ks. Reds relievers Chapman and Schroder did a great job, and gave up no runs. Cubs Middle reliever Weurtz shut the Reds out for 2 innings, but then K.Hart gave up a solo shot to Phillips in the 8th. All in all, the Reds played a great game.

CUBS 2 8 2
REDS 6 13 0

WP: Arroyo 2-0
SV: ------------
LP: Martinez 1-1
HR: Phillips (5)
MVP: Votto (winning run)

Interview:
Merluzzi: Well how does it feel to be .500 again?
Baker: Better than being 1 game below it.
Merluzzi: That was a great game IMO, what do you think?
Baker: That's the best game we've played yet, and against Pedro too! The team and I are going for victory grilled cheese sandwiches at Guido's.
Merluzzi: Can I come? I can give a motivational speech to the guys.
Baker: uhhhhh....
Merluzzi: I'll take that as a yes.

Story update: Merluzzi goes to Guido's with the guys.

Janish has come down with a rare disease that forces him to miss the team meeting at Guido's. Fear not though, it only lasts (insert how long until the end of Merluzzi's speech here), so he'll be good to go for the next game.

NATS (6-18) at REDS (13-11)
The Reds were one game out of first and ready to get back on top. Their opponent, the Nationals, didn't look like much of a threat. The game started off with a Willis 1-2-3 inning, and a Jay Bruce RBI single off Nats starter Niemann to get an early 1-0 lead. The Reds hitters piled it on. They scored 6 runs off Niemann, who lasted only 4 innings. Willis shut the Nats out until the 7th, when he allowed 3 runs. The Reds held their lead, and won 6-3, and are now back in 1st!

Nats: 3
Reds: 6

WP: Willis 2-2
SV: Chapman 5
LP: Niemann 0-1

MVP: Bruce (winning run)
