Meiji Jingu Stadium, Shinjuku, Tokyo – The Tigers lose in a valiant effort, Tateyama pitched for a complete game, and Kanemoto was just out of it yesterday. The Tigers almost deserved this loss, as the offence was almost non-existent.

Also, strangely, Kiyoshi Abe, and Matt Murton’s bats broke in today’s game, back-to-back. Weird.

Tigers win, excellent performance by both Nohmi and Arai

Image – Kyuji Fujikawa
Image – Takahiro Arai

Koshien Stadium, Nishinomiya, Hyōgo – In great part to Atsushi Nohmi the Tigers won yesterday, and with a score of 8-5. The Tigers have been in a slump recently, yes, it’s the slump that’s being recurring throughout the season. But today, it looked like all was well, Nohmi went 8 and a third, and then Fujikawa came in to close things out. And, like usual, the offence was good. Hopefully we’ll be able to sustain this in the postseason. And hopefully we’ll make some good new additions in the offseason.

Also, this years, All-Star games were split again. So it seems that the home-field advantage will go to the team with the better record.

Koshien Stadium, Nishinomiya, Hyōgo – The Tigers lost. The pitching (at least the starting pitching) wasn’t too great. But it wasn’t too bad either. Manager, Akinobu Mayumi had this to say in his press conference following the game: “Our pitching, it’s pretty lackluster. We’ll have to make some big changes next season.”

Agreed.

The Death Inning, has it returned?

Nagoya Dome, Nagoya – The Tigers lost a heart-breaker yesterday, and on their last game of the season no less! The final score was 6-4. The Tigers were leading most of the game, but then came the big, bad 8th inning, and all went south from there. Manager, Akinobu Mayumi spoke in his press conference about what he thinks of the playoffs, he said: “The playoffs, well, they’ll be interesting. We [The Tigers] haven’t been performing at the standard level all year, pretty much. I don’t know how we’ll end up in the playoffs, but hopefully we’ll take it all this year!”

FINAL SEASON STANDINGS:
1. Yomiuri Giants – 86-55-3
2. Hanshin Tigers – 82-61-1, 5 GB
3. Yokohama BayStars – 73-68-3, 13 GB
4. Chunichi Dragons – 71-69-4, 14.5 GB
5. Hiroshima Toyo Carp – 69-72-3, 17 GB
6. Tokyo Yakult Swallows – 43-98-3, 43 GB (:O)

This year’s playoffs should be interesting…
