Opening Day 2011

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals put up a "W" on Opening Day thanks to help from different members of the team. The Royals scored first in an incredible way. Chris Conti came to the plate with one out in the third, and Chien-Ming Wang left a changeup over the middle of the plate on the first pitch of the at-bat. Conti yanked it down the line and around the foul pole for a solo home run in his very first major league at-bat. Later that inning, Felipe Lopez belted an RBI double, and Nick Johnson jacked a two-run homer for a four-run third inning against Wang. David DeJesus provided one more run for the Royals in the fourth with his own RBI double. Kelvim Escobar dominated on opening day today. He went seven innings, and started the eighth, but got taken out after two base runners got on. He also struck out eight Yankees batters and gets the win.

If you want to be Conti's agent, you can be. I really wasn't expecting a TON of offense from him with his low contact and D power, but I was totally surprised with that home run in his first at bat. Although, that was probably mainly luck.

KANSAS CITY -- Chris Conti continues to shine as the sun continues to rise on his career, coming up clutch today. Asdrubal Cabrera knocked in the game's first run with an RBI single in the second. Billy Butler tied it up in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double. Then, in the bottom of the third, Chris Conti blasted a solo home run to take the lead. Asdrubal Cabrera belted his own solo shot in the seventh to re-tie this game. This game would remain tied until the thirteenth inning. In the bottom of the thirteenth, Alex Gordon led-off with a single up the middle. Esteban German pinch-ran for him, and stole second base. John Buck then blooped one into right field for a single. German had to hold at third to wait and see if the ball would be caught or not. And finally, with runners on the corners with no outs, Chris Conti smacked one to deep center, deep enough for a sacrifice fly to score German and win the game.

April 9, 2011

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals have won another walk-off, defeating the White Sox tonight. Mark Teahen got an RBI single in the first to give the Royals an early 1-0 lead, but Paul Konerko tied it up in the top of the second with a solo shot. The Royals then broke the game wide open in the second with four straight RBI doubles. Alex Gordon led-off with a double, and after an out by John Buck, Chris Conti drove home Gordon with a double, followed with three more by David DeJesus, Felipe Lopez, and Mark Teahen. Khalil Greene provided another in the third with a solo jack. Then, the White Sox rally began. Jermaine Dye blasted a solo home run to center in the sixth. The White Sox then got four in the seventh starting with an RBI single by Jamey Carroll, followed by a two-run double by Nick Swisher, followed by an RBI double by Jim Thome to tie the game 6-6. CLEVELAND -- The Royals got lucky tonight, barely sneaking away with a win over the Indians. Khalil Greene blasted a two-run homer in the second to start the scoring. Then, the Indians got back into it in the eighth with one swing of the bat, a three-run bomb to center off the bat of Travis Hafner. The Royals still had a four-run lead going into the ninth, but gave up back-to-back home runs to Asdrubal Cabrera and Kelly Shoppach to start the inning. I'll take him then. If he keeps this up, he'll be almost as good as Guillen. :)

Maybe. But he can't compare to the defense (especially the arm) of Guillen.

Kansas City Royals (9-6) @ Minnesota Twins (9-6)
April 17, 2011

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Royals lost tonight, suffering a sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Twins. This game was scoreless until the sixth inning. With David DeJesus on third and two outs, Nick Johnson grounded one hard to the shortstop, Kennedy. Kennedy made a high throw in which Morneau had to jump off the bag to retrieve. Johnson was safe at first, and DeJesus scored the game's first run. Unfortunately, that was the only run the Royals were able to scrummage. The Twins came up with two runs in the seventh to take the lead. Great White jacked a solo shot to tie it, and Michael Cuddyer blooped an RBI single for the lead. The Twins got one more in the eighth with a solo homer off the bat of Mike Lamb. The Royals couldn't get much going today against Franklin Morales, who dominated with a complete game victory.

Nick Johnson got the Royals on the board in the third with an RBI single, but Jim Thome countered in the bottom of the inning with a solo blast.
