Kansas City Royals (90-61) @ Cleveland Indians (87-64)
September 20, 2010

CLEVELAND -- The Royals won today in an epic extra innings battle against the Indians. Mark Teahen went deep in the top of the first for a one-run lead, but Travis Hafner followed up with his own solo shot in the bottom of the inning to tie it up. In the fourth inning, Ross Gload and Khalil Greene went back-to-back with solo shots for a two-run lead. But the Indians came back in the sixth. Franklin Guttierez scored from third on a wild pitch by Gil Meche. Then Jason Michaels hit an RBI single, and after stealing second, Victor Martinez drove him in with a double for a one-run lead. The Royals re-took the lead once again in the eighth with a two-run double off the bat of Mark Teahen. They scored one more in that inning for a little extra room, but it would not be enough. In the bottom of the ninth, after a one-out single by Casey Blake, Jhonny Peralta got a hold of one and tied the game up with a two-run homer off closer Joakim Soria. This game went into extras. Finally, in the twelfth with the bases loaded, Jose Guillen crushed one off the left-center field wall for a three-run double. Joel Parelta came in to close out the bottom of the inning and the win.

Royals Headed to Postseason

With a win over the Indians yesterday (9/27), the Kansas City Royals are on their way to postseason play for the first time since 1985. The Royals will play the division winner of the AL West in the division series. Right now, the Mariners and Rangers are tied for first in that division with the Angels just a game back.

September in Review

The Royals were .500 in the month of September with a 14-14 record for the month. It was a somewhat tight race as the Royals went on to win the division and are going to the playoffs for the first time since 1985 when they won the World Series. The Royals finished 96-66 overall, three games up on the Indians who won the AL Wild Card. As for other division winners, in the American League, the Yankees took the east, and the Mariners barely won the West over the Angels and Rangers. In the National League, the Mets won the East division with the Phillies taking the wild card. The Cubs won the central, and the Rockies won the west with the best record overall in the majors. All eight teams in the playoffs are excited to get this postseason underway to crown a world champion once again for the 2010 season.

Wait, the Cubs, Mariners, AND Royals are all in the playoffs? Throw in the Orioles and this would be the greatest postseason bracket ever! :D

ChiCubs, I don't know if anybody has asked you, but what settings do you have your games at, and how hard is it to play all 9 innings manually every game?
