Headley a hero as Padres as it comes down to final day

September 27 -- The D-Backs won today, its pretty much win here or go home and they refused to lose tonight on the 2nd to last game of the regular season. The Pirates were able to get off to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on an RBI single by Garrett Jones for the quick 1-0 lead. The Padres had a tough assignment facing a pitcher who dominated them earlier in the year in Zach Duke but David Eckstein tied the game with a double in the 4th to make it 1-1. The rest of way it was a pitchers duel with Mat Latos going 6 1/3 of 1-run baseball and Zach Duke dominated again going 8 innings giving up just 1 run. In the end the Pirates had staged a rally in the 9th trying to score the winning run off of Tyler Yates and got the winning run at 3rd with 2 outs when Chase Headley promptly grounded one into center field for the walk-off base hit. Headley's biggest hit of his life has made the NL West a stalemate going into game number 162. Stay tuned.

I don't post much, but I love both your guys' logs. I read them everyday, I just don't post in them really. That's not to discount anyone elses' logs either, because if they're active I read them. I really like reading season logs.

Good luck with game 162 jacobye, crazy it's come down to the last game of the season.

Padres fall in season finale, postseason looking unclear

September 28 -- After Hairston lined out to center field the Padres dugout looked like a depleted bunch knowing they missed a huge chance for a sweep that could give them the West, now they have to pray for a Rockies win over Arizona for a 1-game playoff. The Padres scored first in the 4th inning when Scott Hairston in part of a 3-hit afternoon singled in 2 runs to make it 2-0. Clayton Richard had shut out Pittsburgh through the 1st five innings but ran into trouble in the 6th when Iwamura doubled in a run and then Garrett Jones drove him in to tie the score at 2. Richard would be taken out for Webb in the 8th inning and that would be the turning point. Hairston dove and missed a lined shot into center by Bobby Crosby which went for a leadoff triple and 2 batters later he was driven in by Garrett Jones to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead in a stunned Petco Park. In the 9th the Padres got the lead-off man on in Adrian Gonzalez but were unable to move him up(well Jerry Hairston who was pinch running) as Scott Hairston lined out hard to McCutchen to end the game and maybe a fun Padres season with it.
