ugh well I was about to type in a game log but go figure it says I'm not "logged in" so it doesn't send AND exits out of there :x stupid google chrome...

but anyways I was going to write about the Padres winning 7-5 in Colorado, taking 2 of 3 and overall being 1.5 games behind the D-Backs heading into a Nationals series. it's starting to look tough :|

Stairs pinch hit blast proves decider as Padres take NL West lead

September 20 -- The Padres got a huge win today, winning their 2nd straight against the Nationals, clinching a winning record for 2008 and in the process taking a 0.5 game lead in the National League West. Down 1.5 2 days ago, the Padres have won two while the Diamondbacks have lost the 1st two games in their series in Colorado. The Padres scored first in the 4th inning on a 2-run double by Mike Morse who was with the Nationals earlier this year before being trades to San Diego(I'm sure he likes where he is right now better). But the Nationals got a 2-run play of their own when Ryan Zimmerman hit a 2-run home run off of Mat Latos to tie the game in the 6th. The decisive hit in the game came off the bat of Matt Stairs who hit his 4th pinch hit home run this season to make it 3-2 and in the end give the Padres the series over Washington with a chance to sweep.

Bell implodes in 9th as Manny's drive wins it

September 24 -- The Padres can't afford to lose these games with just 4 games left and with this loss they let the D-Backs tie the Padres atop the NL West once again. It started off as a good pitchers duel and the scoring began in the 4th when Matt Stairs making a start today in right hit a solo home run but in the bottom of the inning Matt Kemp would hit an RBI single to tie it and they would then take a 2-1 lead in the 7th on Matt Kemp's 2nd RBI of the game. But the Padres staged another late rally as David Eckstein hit an RBI triple to tie it and Kyle Blanks drove him home with a ribbie single to make it 3-2 Friars. The Padres kept Chris Young in for the bottom of the 8th and would be a mistake as he would cough up a 2-out RBI single to Ronny Belliard to tie the game at 3. The Padres would take their final lead of the game in the 9th when Scott Hairston homered to lead off the 9th inning to give them the 4-3 lead, that would not be enough. Heath Bell imploded in the 9th, giving up 5 consecutive hits which included the game-tying RBI single by Ronny Belliard and then with the bases loaded and no one out, Manny sent a ball off the top of the wall which would be more than enough to get the run in for the walk-off single.

NL West tied as final weekend comes | Pittsburgh(69-90) @ San Diego(85-74)
September 26 -- It's all come down to this. The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres have been neck and neck for most of the season and are now tied at 1st in the NL West going into the final series of the season. The Padres will host the Pittsburgh Pirates, last in the NL Central in 2008. Meanwhile in Arizona, the D-Backs face a surging 81-78 Rockies team that is right now 4 games behind and eliminated after yesterday, but are 8-2 in their last 10 and 31-18 in their last 2 months to end their season strong. We will keep you posted.

well I saved and loaded this series to see what would happen if were tied atop the West at the end of the season and there would be a one-game playoff in San Diego

and I did NOT save so it DIDN'T happen. I just wanted to see what it would come down to.

Come on! You can DO IT! It's the PIRATES! They're 69-91! You can take 'em easy! Just hope the Rockies can keep beating the D'Backs.
