Royals Ship Tomko to Oakland for Cash

The Royals have dealt veteran pitcher Brett Tomko to the Athletics for 3000 points. This was done to help clear room on the roster for rookies Ziegler and Dinas as the team moves forward in becoming younger.

Spring Training 2009

The Royals come into spring training younger, and ready to go for the upcoming season. While they have lost veterans like Mark Grudzielanek and Brett Tomko, they are ready for a new era in Kansas City baseball with first and second round draft picks Anthony Ziegler and Ricky Dinas expected to be on the opening day roster. Everyone has been working hard this spring and are preparing themselves for the 2009 season.

Kansas City Royals - 2009

The Kansas City Royals come into 2009 with some new faces. With the retirement of Mark Grudzielanek, the Royals went out and got free agent Felipe Lopez to take his spot at second base. The Royals also have someone different on the bench. Angel Sanchez will be the backup middle infielder, taking the place of Alberto Callaspo from last year. Callaspo will be spending most of the year in AAA working on his power. Probably the biggest additions to the Royals in 2009 are Anthony Ziegler and Ricky Dinas in the starting rotation. Ziegler was the first round draft pick of the Royals last year, and Dinas the second round pick. Both will now be in contention for rookie of the year. Ziegler make his major league debut in three of the opening series in Cleveland, and Dinas will make his debut in the home opener against the Red Sox.

Dangit. I just got perfect gamed again. This time, I got perfect gamed by Josh Beckett. This time, I played the ninth inning to try to break it up, but I couldn't.

Wakefield's Knuckleball is level 6 by default, but like anything, it can decrease in old age.

April 19, 2009

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals beat the White Sox tonight in epic comeback and walk-off fashion. Early in the game, Meche was a little wild, and with Carlos Quentin on third, he threw a wild pitch allowing him to score the first run of the game. Luckily, the Royals got that run back as well as two more in the bottom of the inning when Jose Guillen blasted a three-run jack. Jermaine Dye brought this game back within one in the second with a solo shot, and gave the Sox the lead in the third with a three-run bomb for a two-run White Sox lead. Mark Teahen brought this game within one in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot, but Pedro Feliz got that run back for the Sox in the fourth with his own solo blast. The Royals AGAIN brought this game within one in the fifth when Jose Guillen jacked a solo shot, his second of the game, and 200th career home run. But Juan Uribe AGAIN got that run back for the Sox in the seventh with HIS own solo home run. The White Sox then went up by three in the eighth with an RBI single by A.J. Pierzynski. Then, the Royals comeback began. In the eighth, Ross Gload jacked an opposite field solo home run to bring this game back within two. Then, in the bottom of the ninth with runners on second and third, Royals newcomer Felipe Lopez dumped a single into center scoring both runs to tie the game. This game then went into extra innings. Ross Gload led-off the bottom of the tenth with a single. Billy Butler moved him over to second with a sacrifice bunt. And finally, Esteban German, who came into this game in the ninth, blooped a single into the outfield to score Gload and win the game.
