Twins, Braves Trade Minor Leaguers

MINNESOTA—Amid rumors of blockbuster trades with the Giants, the Twins did make a move today, albeit of a much smaller scale. They send minor league second baseman Matt Tolbert to the Atlanta Braves for middle reliever Rafael Soriano.

In regard to the Giants trade, Nomo does not mind a move to long reliver but does not wish to be traded as he loves it up here in Minnesota. Morneau thinks that you are offically insane and does not want his buds Kubel and Nathan to leave. He does think that if you go through with the trade, you should replace Zito and his ginormous salary with Matt Cain and his much lesser one.

As for what I think on the trade, I don't like it, but I don't think its nessicarily a bad idea. Trading away a proven Closer, your #1 starter, and your #5 hitter, in return for a lead off man, and a #1 and #2 starters just doesn't add up to me. You could try Soriano at Closer, I've used as one with my Braves and he's good.

I figured Morneau would be the party pooper. Nathan is doing less-than-stellar, and Neshek is doing better-than-Nathan. This is my point of view: We get a solid leadoff hitter, a much deeper lineup (Cuddyer in the 5 hole doesn't sound like a bad lineup to me), two starting pitchers, a new bullpen arm/trading bait, and (while not neccesarily THE Joe Nathan) a decent reliever (Neshek/Rincon/Soriano, I'm not sure) as a closer. We're only two games ahead in the Central, and Joe Nathan may end up being a small price to pay for holding on to that lead.

When you put it that way, it sounds like a good trade. I'd go for it if you want it. However, I'd suggest consulting the players being traded agents first.

Yeah, I was hoping I could ask them.

Please tell me if I'm the only one who thinks this trade isn't a bad idea.

Giants Get:

Jason Kubel (RF)
Joe Nathan (CL)
Francisco Liriano (SP)

Twins Get:
Tim Lincecum (SP)
Barry Zito (SP)
Randy Winn (RF)

Success Rate:****

If I pull it off, Neshek becomes the closer, Rincon sets up, someone in the rotation moves to the pen or gets traded for a middle reliever or weak hitter. Winn becomes right fielder, Cuddyer becomes DH. Winn does not start in NL, but hits leadoff in AL. The lineup would be:

Winn
Young
Mauer
Morneau
Cuddyer
Harris
Lamb
Everett
Gomez

Have I gone mad? Or is this a legitimately good idea?

You have. Liriano wishes NOT to be traded. But if he is, then I want Lincecum... :hide:

Okay, so here's the deal: everybody likes the idea, but nobody wants to get traded. This…is a problem.

I like this trade, and so do my clients. They think that the players we recieve will help out our pitching staff and win the AL Central. This coming from a Tigers fan...

Jason Kubel does not want to leave Minnesota. He really likes it here and is very dissapointed that he was talked about in trade rumors.

Anyway, Joe Nathan is really good in this game, he will get better. Trust me.

I don't like it. You really shouldn't get Zito if at all possible. His huge salary is too much for is average-ish production, and Liriano is a good pitcher in this game. You're not SIGNIFICANTLY improving your lineup or pitching at all, and you are increasing your salary by a good amount.

Lincecum >= Liriano
Nathan >>> Zito
Winn > Kubel

If anyone else has an ALTERNATE option, it would be greatly appreciated.

What exactly are you looking for? If you tell me, I'd try to find something.

Starting pitching. But I can't give up a lot of offense.

Players will be bolded

Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain are two people that are easy to get together. Chicubsfan4 stole them from the Giants for only Matt Murton.

Dan Haren of the Arizona Diamondbacks is also pretty easy to get, he comes with a little bit of a price (3900), but he can be a good #2 or #3 guy.

In the Leftys department, Zach Duke and Paul Maholm are easy to get. Both are very good too, Duke espically at simming.

The Red Sox have a lot of good people to go after. I personaly recommend Jon Lester, Tim Wakefield, and Curt Schilling.

From personal experices Jermey Guthrie, Rich Hill, and Cliff Lee are also easy to get.

Overall, I'd recomend a trade with Lincecum and Cain is what I recomend. Try to find a bench player that has good stats, but is blocked by another player (Jose Bautista comes to mind). Or, you could trade someone like Boof Bonser packed with Bautista to increase chances. Do what Longball has said, if Two Stars or more, S/L untill it get through, though I have horrible luck at doing that.

"Shoulda Seen It Coming": Bonser, Bautista Traded To San Fran

MINNESOTA-Boof Bonser and Jose Bautista have been traded to the San Francisco Giants for Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. GM Benny Leo said in regards to the deal, "You know I've been having problems with Bonser and Bautista, and you know I've had my eye on Cain and Lincecum. The press is making it seem like a surprise, but I feel - I truly feel in my heart - that you shoulda seen it coming."

The current starters are (in no order) Cain, Lincecum, Baker, Blackburn, and Liriano. Livan Hernandez becomes a swing man, Nomo moves to long relief.
