Power seems incredibly hard to build up. The best I've ever beaten the game with is a low E (See: Rootee Hernandez). How do you get lots of power?

Mainly, use the Steak arc. You can build up a lot of Power like that. Or, you can do a bunch of Weight Training...

...but then contact/run speed/fielding won't be great—or am I missing something?

Take a look at some of my earlier created fielders, and you'll see I don't worry about the glove too much, but with my latest one I posted, I focused more on fielding than batting, but he's still a good batter.

As PowerPro Jr. said, working at the steakhouse helps A LOT with that, or if you want to do it from the boosting abilities screen, getting "Good Sense" ability from Sittch's ninja training helps a lot.

Most of it comes down to the standard Success formula - have as many turns as possible, and use them as well as possible. To this end, adding energy and rollover points is the key. So generally, you want to

1) use your game knowledge to have as much stamina as possible (practice with Sittch when already exhausted; use Patty and the other girls to boost stamina; do the Organic Dog arcfor +80 stam at $4 cost, etc)

2) pratice when the coach is watching

3) do excellent in games for coach/scout points

4) use carryover chocolates (and other items) to get more turns - up to 3 a week - for maxed abilities.

5) try hard to save points for when you obtain Good Sense (usually at completion of Frank ark at beginning of AAA season). This means that you save all your points for when abilities cost the least!

Using these four tactics, you can max anything. If you just practice strength training as a first priority, you'll end up gathering 500+ strength points.

Once you add a storyline arc suited to your need - like the Steakhouse for power/stamina, you just chase that down as much as possible. you don't need Vitality to do steakhouse work - just time. The more you go, the more points, power, and even abilities you get.

Just made a guy with B power. I'll put him on the password exchange when I upload the pics to my computer.
