Pirates Part Ways With Neshek - Get Bell from F/A Pool
It's somewhat ironic that they are releasing Pat Neshek whom they got as a free agent in the middle of season a few years ago while a new guy they found midseason F/A pool will be coming to replace him. With draft picks coming, teams were forced to release a few players and for salary choices, the Padres released RHP Heath Bell. The Pirates found him and quickly signed him to a 1,040 point deal. Bell was great this season with a 2.67 ERA while Neshek had a rough year so far with a 5.67 ERA, 3 points higher. Bell was a great find and will be setting up in this bullpen as Pittsburgh tries to rejuvenate a once major league best bullpen.

Draft Day 2012

I guess it's just an era where players in drafts are only useful in early rounds, such goes this year. The Pirates released a LHP so they wouldn't have to worry about his playing time and only signed a 2B named Rynel Sparks(E,F,E,D,E). He is a switch hitting second basemen and a 21-year old and not much is expected from him. The Houston Astros got the 1st pick this season, the Pirates picked 27th. The most intriguing prospect is Marlins 3B Delluchi. He was drafted by Florida in the 20's and is very resemblant to Ikari who was drafted in 2009. Delluchi is a switch hitting third basemen with power(F,B,E,E,E).

Davis Homers Rangers Past Pirates

June 11 -- The Pirates suffered only their second interleague play loss of the year after falling to the Rangers on a big day by Chris Davis. The Pirates took an early lead off of Ranger's starter Blackburn(not Nick) with an RBI single by McCutchen and an RBI double by Jamey Carroll in the 2nd inning. But the Rangers scored 3 runs to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI double by their young catcher Mattison, Byrd and Andruw Jones also pitched in with RBI singled of their own. The scoring would continue in the 4th with a game tying homerun by Rocco Baldelli which would be taken back quickly by a solo homerun by Chris Davis and a passed ball scored another run for a 5-4 lead. More scoring came in the 6th inning with a game-tying homerun by Garrett Jones but Dacis would have the deciding shot with a solo 7th inning shot off of Pignatiello which would be the difference in a 6-5 win.

I try to get good players but I won't S/L

I tried to get a good second basemen but it failed

Useless draft players are just annoying because they're in my AAA system for a LONG time without doing anything and soon they're 33 with 2,200 salaries

And by the way I'm in debt somehow  I blame Aaron Cook and his 10,110 contract

He may have to be traded if I keep on losing points(I have like -1000)

So just release them when they have a 390 salary.

Late comeback thwarted in extras by Well's homerun

June 14 -- The Blue Jays are the tough interleague play team on the Pirates schedule and they showed why in 11 innings. The Blue Jays exploded early against Lohse, it started with an RBI single by an RBI single by Lyle Overbay, then a 2-run double by Lind and the 4-run first inning was capped by an RBI single by the SS Weibl, who was drafted earlier this week and was hitting .600 coming into today in his short time with Toronto, he had a great day today too. The Pirates would strike in the 7th against Brett Cecil though. Ikari ignited a rally with a 2-run homerun and Ryan Doumit helped chip away to make it 4-3. But in the 8th, Delwyn Young came into the game in part of a double switch and contributed right away with a leadoff homerun in the 8th inning to tie the game at 4. But in the 11th inning, Heath Bell making only his 2nd appearance with the Pirates allowed a solo homerun to red-hot Vernon Wells to make it 5-4 and the game would be saved by fill-in closer Shawn Marcum.

Just wanted to let you know I was still following this, even if I have been scarce lately. BTW, what settings are you using? (Lock-on, Expert, etc...). I like that most of your games are nailbiters. Unless I'm playing with a bunch of expansion scrubs, most of my games are blowouts.

My settings for the computer are:
Batting: Powerful
Pitching: All_Star
Fielding: All_Star
Baserunning: Powerful
Lock on - 1 (Sometimes 2 if I'm playing some horrific offensive team)
and my lock on is on 2

Ya sometimes the games are blowouts when my offense is on but when its not then its usually a nailbiter, but I also sometimes do fast game for a few innings in some games too. I don't give up many runs because my starters have so many abilities, good controls, good staminas and breaking balls, but I struggle when I use my bullpen. The wierd thing is that with my closers, I never seem to really dominate with them like I should be able to. All go to Street, Hanrahan and Capps

Never Say Die - Pirates Rally Ends Eight Game Losing Streak Against L.A

June 18 -- The Pirates never gave up today against the Dodgers, but their 0-8 start was over after a rally in the 12th inning. The Dodgers scored first in the 1st inning with a 2-run double by Manny Ramirez. But the Pirates would score 6 runs within the first two innings to get Chad Billingsley out of the game. But the Dodgers scored 2 in 5th inning, 2 in the 6th inning and then one more run in the 7th inning to take a 7-6 lead but Jayson Werth hit a homerun in the 7th inning to tie the score at 7-7. The game was back and forth throughout extra innings such as Juan Pierre throwing out Jeff Clement at the plate in the 11th inning to give the Dodgers a chance. And they would make use of their chance as Casey Blake drove in the go-ahead run with a double and Juan Pierre drove him in to take a 9-7 lead with 3 outs left. But Dodger closer Jonathan Broxton was very tired today after all his work in the last couple days(he had the gray unrested face) and he helped ignite a Pirates magical 12th inning. Rocco Baldelli drove in the the run that made it 9-8 and it would be tied with 1 out, Jones at the plate and runners on the corners when he hit a grounder to Roberts who tried to turn the double play but when Furcal's throw back to first was JUST late, the game was tied and the Pirates were saved. Mike Fontenot who came in from a double-switch capped this whole night off with a walk-off single to center field to end an emotional extras win to the Dodgers. This game showed that the Pirates never say die.

Lohse Throws Shutout As Pirates Roll Against M's

June 23 -- The Pirates got an easy 4th straight win as Kyle Lohse had his best start in his short career with Pittsburgh firing a complete game shutout in Safeco Field. The Pirates scored early and often against former Buc Ian Snell who has succeeded with he Mariners(2.90 ERA). Carroll had a leadoff homerun to begin the game, Doumit hit a 2nd inning 3-run homerun and Ikari hit a 2-run homerun in the 4th to go ahead 6-0 and not look back winning 9-0 while Kyle Lohse improved to 6-1 after a 9-hit shutout.

Lohse K's 11 As Pirates Halt 4-game Skid

June 28 -- The Pirates had lost 4 straight, 3 to the Brewers who came within 2 games of the Pirates but the Pirates managed to get a big win to end a 4 game losing streak. The Pirates scored 3 early runs against the 2009 draft pick, Knuckleball Hankins of the Brewers. Werth hit a 2-run homerun in the 1st inning, Pearce hit his 3rd shot of the season in the 2nd inning and then Garrett Jones hit a 2-run homerun in the 5th inning to go ahead 5-0. Kyle Lohse threw a shutout the last time the Pirates won a game before today, today he gave them a win throwing 7 2/3 innings and striking out a season high 11 hitters. The Brewers also used the longball in this game, a 2-run homerun by Hall in the 6th cut the deficit to 5-2 and Bill Hall homered to make it 5-3. Homeruns would be all the scoring in 5-3 over the Milwaukee Brewers and it propels Pittsburgh back to a 3 game lead over the Brew Crew.

Wilson and Snell Make Impact In Return Back To Pittsburgh

June 30 -- The day was set to come one day, the day that Jack Wilson returned to Pittsburgh with Ian Snell also coming back. Wilson was around from 2001 to up to a few years ago and was a flashy player but he wanted to compete and thus was the trade that sent Snell and Wilson to Seattle for most notably Jeff Clement. And it was Jack Wilson in the 3rd inning driving in a run but the big blow in the game was the 3rd inning 2-run homerun by future hall-of famer Ken Griffey Jr. to make it 3-0. Ian Snell was dominant unlike the first time he faced the Pirates this year. His only mistake was a solo homerun to Jayson Werth in the 4th inning and he would hand it over to new closer Chad Cordero. He would give up a homerun to Rocco Baldelli, his 6th, to make it 3-2 but he collected the last two outs of the game to save his 8th game for the Mariners and end the month of June.

Kyle Lohse feels he is doing great this year and he really likes Pittsburgh, and he would be very dissapointed if the Pirates don't make the playoffs this year.

Pirates June In Review

The Pirates went 16-11 in another good month, they still have problems but they always seem tow in games somehow. They got 9 homeruns in the month for Garrett Jones, Werth is close to 20 homeruns and Ikari, despite his lower power was great near the end and is hitting .314 while McCutchen remains the unsung hero hitting .324 but his stolen bases are down and they got a huge month from Ryan Doumit who has seen his average raise .70 points since April to hit over .300 for the first time this season. One problem seems to be the payroll. They are down to 1,945 points and going bankrupt could end in Jacob Eagle's reign as Pirates GM which has changed this franchise of course. One problem has to be Aaron Cook who may see a trade, he has a 4.98 ERA and a 7-7 record, they have a few in AAA that could start in his place. In the rotation, everyone improved. Lohse came on and fired a few gems down the stretch, Maholm may have his best season of his career, Duke has improved while Anibal Sanchez leads the team in ERA. But it's almost safe to say that it's back to a platoon at second base. Carroll played the whole month and his average dropped about .100 points while Fontenot's only went up and he now has 2 homeruns and 16 RBI's while not playing a lot so thats something to monitor. In the end, the Pirates still have a comfy lead in the NL Central and playoff races, mainly because of the bad performances by the Cardinals(9-18), Brewers(14-13), Cubs(14-13) with one bright spot being the Reds(16-11)
