April 4 -- This marked the home opener for the Pirates at PNC Park and it didn't disappoint. The Brewers got to Maholm early in this game, Weeks started off this game with a triple to left center field but was thrown out by Cedeno at the plate trying to be aggressive on a ground ball to him but Prince Fielder still made up for it with a 450 foot shot to right for a 2-0 lead. Although Maholm was able to settle down and pitch well, Dave Bush had a shutout for the first 7 innings and into the 8th. But Travis Buck changed that with an 8th inning homerun to make it 2-1 and a few hitters later, Andrew McCutchen grabbed his 4th RBI of the season to tie the game against Bush and the Brewers at 2-2. Huston Street made his debut in the 10th inning with a 1-2-3 inning and he would get the win as in the 10th, Andrew McCutchen would triple to left center field and become the winning run on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Mike Fontenot where Braun was unable to throw out McCutchen in shallow left.

September 8 -- The Pirates and Cardinals clashed for the first time in 2011 in a much awaited series. The Pirates once again put themselves in an early hole after a 2-run homerun by Pujols in the 1st inning off of Zach Duke. Duke would struggle in 5 innings giving up 4 runs(3 earned) and the other 2 runs came in the 3rd when Schumaker drove in a run and an RBI groundout by Colby Rasmus in the 4th. It took the Pirates until the 4th to get a hit off of Chris Carpenter when Ikari doubled to start the inning. But with 1 out, Robinzon Diaz would double in his 1st run of the season and Steve Pearce would hit a pinch hit sac fly to make it 4-2 but Carpenter was too good the rest of the way firing 8 innings of 2-run ball to propel St. Louis to 6-1 while propelling Duke to 0-2.

September 12 -- The Pirates 4 game losing streak came to an end after facing Brewers big free agent pickup Brandon Webb. But last years Cy Young Anibal Sanchez was up to the task in a pitchers duel which started in the 3rd inning with an RBI single by Bill Hall. The Pirates had trouble with Webb who would give up a 2-out single in the 8th to Mike Fontenot to tie the game and that would be all for Webb who threw 8 innings of 1 run ball. The Brewers finally got to the bullpen in the 8th inning when Hardy hit his 5th homerun of the year off of Tyler Yates for the 2-1 lead which would the 2-1 final in Miller Park.

Bucs Send Down Hanrahan after rough start, Hart called up for bullpen depth

The Pirates sent down former closer Joel Hanrahan and called up RHP Kevin Hart for bullpen help and a person who can give multiple innings and a spot start. Hanrahan had a tough year ERA-wise as the Pirates closer last year and has an 8.64 ERA this year. His latest troubles coming after a 3-run homerun from Corey Hart in a 7-4 Brewers win.

September 17 -- The Pirates bats took 7 innings to wake up but the Pirates unleashed a monster when they did. Troy Glaus started off the 3rd inning with a 3-run homerun off of Karstens to take a 3-0 lead. Kyle Lohse came into today with a 0.56 ERA and looks great through 6 innings but then it all went well downhill for him and the Cardinals. The Pirates chipped away for 2 in the 7th inning to make it 4-3 but Susumu Ikari hit a 2-run 8th inning homerun to make it 4-3 Pirates but the 8th inning was a marathon. A few hitters later Ramon Vazquez put it out of reach with a grand slam homerun for a 7-3 lead but the Pirates would not stop scoring 12 runs in the 8th, 7 runs were driven in by Vazquez who hit a grand slam and 3-run homerun in the 8th inning and went 4-4 to cap a performance of a lifetime. This will live in alot of people's minds for awhile, especially for Vazquez.

September 30 -- The Pirates and Mets squared off for the first time since the NLDS and the Pirates went to Shea Stadium for the first time since Game 3 of the NLDS to end this month. The story of the game was Jeremy Bonderman who came into today with an ERA in the 1's after being picked up as a free agent and he was dominant tonite and kept the Pirates hitless until Mike Fontenot broke it up with a 7th inning single. The Pirates came into the 7th inning only down 2-0 but Karstens had a rough inning, Reyes singled in a run to make it 3-0 and then Beltran hit a groundball that brought in a run but Ryan Doumit also had a passed ball that brought in the 3rd run of the inning to make it 5-0. The Pirates would only grab one run and that was a sac fly by Susumu Ikari in the 8th and Bonderman was able to go all the way for the complete game win.

April In Review

The Pirates got off to another good April start with a 17-11 mark in April, 2 ahead of the Cardinals and Brewers. It was a very up and down month for them despite a 17-11 record. Werth struggled with a low average and 3 homeruns, Doumit drove in only 6 runs in the April, former closer Hanrahan was sent down to AAA after struggling and the guy replacing him has 2 saves and a 4.50 ERA. The starting rotation looks good though but does not have the wins to show for it as Sanchez has a sub 3 ERA but only 1 win to show for it. Hart is being used out of the pen as a spot starter and good reliever and settled down after throwing 3 innings and 6 runs in a blowout win over the Brewers in relief. Bautista and Yates are the guys to look to but Street and Neshek have been early disappointments, especially Street. But on the bright side, Jones had a monster April and carried this team while Cedeno has been tearing it up. As of now, the Pirates have the best record in the national league but are second in the majors record-wise to the Red Sox.

Doumit and Duke Slam Phillies

May 4 -- The Pirates won their 3rd straight against the Phillies with two 4-run innings. Ryan Howard got the Phillies up in the 1st with a 2-run shot off of Duke but the Pirates came back with an RBI double by Jayson Werth, an 2-run double by Ikari and an RBI single for Steve Pearce for a 4-run 1st innings. Up 4-2 still in the 5th, Ryan Doumit hit his first grand slam of the season off of Joe Blanton for the 8-2 lead. The Pirates would go on to win 9-3 with 7 good innings from Duke, an extra note is that Alfredo Amezaga had to leave the game after being hit by a pitch from Joe Blanton in the 5th inning.

Pirates acquire Zagurski from Phillies

The Pirates made their first and maybe only move in the season and acquired LHP Mike Zagurski from the Phillies for shortstop Brian Bixler. Alot of things have gone right this season including winning 5 straight in May so far but they have not like what they've seen from Pignatiello so far whom has a 7.04 ERA. Brian Bixler struggled trying to win a shortstop job in 2008 and had not much chance with this team. Bixler(F,E,3 trj) is a better choice at shortstop then their shortstop of now in Eric Bruntlett(F,F, 2 trj)

thanks and:

Image
I got this by going to google, go to advanced search for images and then make the width 50 and the height 50 and then search Pirates mlb.mlb and this will show up and you can do it for any other mlb team too

Image
I got this one by doing the same thing as before(50x50) except I searched Pirates rototimes, this works for any team too

Image
And I got this one by instead of doing 50x50 for width and height in advanced search. I made it 80x60 and wrote: Pirates Yahoo sports
these are pretty cool ones though and there are some cool logos from the past such as the Expos, old Padres(which I used the logo as the division leaders a few posts back), there the old d-backs, old angels and etc (you can PM me if you want to know the password to my photobucket thing because thats where all the logos are)

D-Backs rally for win over Pirates

May 8 -- The Pirates had troubles in their bullpen today after falling to Diamondbacks. The Pirates started their scoring with a 2-run homerun in the 1st for Mike Fontenot but things got interesting in the 5th. The Pirates were up 4-1 in the 5th when Yates and Karstens had trouble getting outs and Conor Jackson made them pay with a 2 out grand slam to turn this game around, Reynolds made it back to back homeruns to make it 6-4. The Pirates made their rally of their own in the 8th though, Werth and Ikari started the inning off with back to back shots and a sac fly by Ryan Doumit tied the game at 7. Joe Beimel struggled for the first time this season and ended up giving up his first run of the season from an RBI single by Stephen Drew in the 8th. Peguero would fill in for an unavailable Chad Qualls in the 9th to secure his first save of 2011.

Met's sixteen hits not enough against Maholm and Bucs

May 10 -- The Mets had a frustrating night after getting only 3 runs with 16 hits in their loss to the Pirates. Pearce started the scoring in the 4th inning with a solo homerun to left but the Mets scored next inning on an RBI single by Gary Sheffield. Ryan Doumit hit his 4th homerun off of Livan Hernandez in the 5th inning and Maholm helped his cause with a sac fly for the 3-1 lead. The Pirates looked like they had this game put away in the 8th inning when Ramon Vazquez hit a pinch hit homerun for an insurance run but Street struggled again. He allowed an RBI double to Marlon Anderson which was not played well by McCutchen which allowed the run to score to make it 4-3 Pirates but Street would get the last out for only his 4th save of the season.

I think this is the longest running, best-developed franchise log on this forum. Grats' Jacobye. I've been following, in secret. :P
