Hideo Nomo: (8 - 4), 2.49 ERA vs. Steve Trachsel: (9 - 8), 3.50 ERA

BALTIMORE -- The Rays have won the second game of this three game series in Baltimore against the Orioles. The Rays were quick to strike in the first, Carlos Pena with a huge three-run blast to take an early lead. Carl Crawford extended that lead in the same inning with his own home run, a solo shot. Nick Markakis also homered in the bottom of the frame, a very rare inside-the-park home run to narrow the lead to three. In the fifth inning, B.J. Upton belted a solo shot to center, but Great Johnson gave the O's that one back in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot. Then in the seventh, Melvin Mora brought the Orioles within one with a two-run shot. The Rays added on with one more in the ninth when Rocco Baldelli hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the runner from third, and the lead would hold as the Rays defeat the Orioles two games in a row.

Scott Kazmir: (10 - 7), 3.18 ERA vs. Brian Burres: (9 - 5), 4.67 ERA

BALTIMORE -- The Rays have swept the Orioles three straight games in a close in which Scott Kazmir did not pitch his best yet still got the win. Jason Bartlett also homered in the fifth to extend the lead to four, but the Orioles came back in the bottom of that inning with three. Melvin Mora hit into a sacrifice groundout scoring Norton* from third, followed by back-to-back RBI doubles by Nick Markakis and Aubrey Huff. The Rays then came up with two in the seventh; Akinori Iwamura with an RBI single and a fielder's choice allowing Nathan Haynes to score from third, but the Orioles got two of their own in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single off the bat of Aubrey Huff. The Rays came up with one more in the ninth on a Carl Crawford solo homer to extend the lead to two, a lead that would hold as the Rays sweep the Orioles.

9/25 - Rays (95-63) @ Tigers (86-72): Game 1
James Shields: (10 - 8), 2.34 ERA vs. Nate Robertson: (11 - 13), 6.23 ERA

DETROIT -- The Rays continue to a four game winning streak, taking game one of four in this final series of the season in Detroit. The Tigers scored first in the fourth on a Carlos Guillen RBI double, but the Rays tied it up in the sixth when Akinori Iwamura hit an RBI single. The Rays then took the lead in the eighth on a solo jack by B.J. Upton, and added to the lead in the ninth when Jason Bartlett belted a huge two-run double. Curtis Granderson tried to spark a rally in the bottom of the ninth with a lead-off home run, but Troy Percival closed it out for yet another save.

Final Score:
Rays: 4
Tigers: 2

Image
James Shields: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Dan Wheeler (W, 14-2): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Al Reyes: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Troy Percival (SV, 46): 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Akinori Iwamura: 1-5, RBI
B.J. Upton: 1-4, HR (41), RBI, R
Cliff Floyd: 2-4, 2B, R
Rocco Baldelli: 1-4, R
Humberto Quintero: 1-4, R
Jason Bartlett: 2-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI

Image
Nate Robertson (L, 11-14): 8.2 IP, 12 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Fernando Rodney: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Curtis Granderson: 2-4, HR (30), RBI, 2 R, K
Carlos Guillen: 1-4, 2B, RBI

I'm thinking there's some end of the season affects on players in this game. James Shields normally would go way longer than six innings. He has the highest stamina on the team in the 180's, he had the happy pink bouncy face, and he only threw sixty something pitches and was showing signs of tiring in the sixth.

9/26 - Red Win NL Central; Brewers win NL Wild Card
The Cincinnati Reds have won the National League Central division. It was expected they'd be the best team in the majors earlier in the season, but the Milwaukee Brewers fought back to make it close. The Reds currently have a 95-64 record, four games up on the Brewers, who are also headed to postseason play having won the wild card currently with a record of 91-68. Both teams are excited for postseason play, both having not been to the playoffs in a while, and hope to make something of their franchises this October.

Yeah, the Reds were a good team when I played the Mendenhals season back in 07. They were our opponent in the World Series for, like, 4 or 5 years in a row!

This loss REALLY, and I mean REALLY hurt. I've been struggling so much with pitching this entire month, especially compared to last month. I gave up 52 runs total in the month of August. I've given up 80 runs in September now. What went wrong here?

Of course I'll continue! I never stop after just one season. I'll go the whole 10 years if I can before the next PP game comes out.

If I lose the last game, I'll finish with the exact record the Rays ended with last year. I'm not going to throw the game, but I feel like I should because that would be so awesome! :D
