Ramon Vazquez would like a shot as starting third baseman if that is where you have the need.

Pirates send down struggling Ohlendorf, recall Hansen from AAA

Today the Pirates called up RHP Craig Hansen from AAA and have sent down struggling Ross Ohlendorf. Ohlendorf made it as the long reliever/swing man in spring training but has struggled to an ERA of 9.00 so far here in mid-may.

As far as Vazquez goes, I could use him but Andy LaRoche is somewhat useless off the bench as just a 3B. Fontenot can play 3B too

And Ruggiano could get called up if he can get his trajectory to 2(hes working on it) but Young is hitting well enough to stay as a switch hitter off the bench but Salazar is the only logical choice to send down but I have too many outfields off the bench for Ruggiano probably

Pittsburgh Pirates(28-21) @ San Fransisco Giants(23-26)

Today was about Jonathon Sanchez. After taking the first two games against the Giants, the Pirates looked for a sweep. In the 3rd, the pitcher Jonathan Sanchez singled in a run to give SF a 1-0 lead, that would be the final. The struggling south paw went 7 1/3 innings and gave up no runs, he even drove in the only run of the game. Anibal Sanchez opposed him and gave up only 1 run in 6 innings and he took a tough loss after pitching well enough for a win.

Pirates May In Review - Dominating Month Changes Team

The Pirates May was an adventure, and for the 1st time in awhile they enjoyed it. They at one point had a 10 game winning streak in May and went an extremly suprising 20-8 in May to put them at 32-24, this all a suprise as the Bucs rotation hasn't been consistent yet. As it stands, they are only 2 games behind the Astors for the wild card and 4 behind the Cardinals for 1st place. It will be a tough road as 3 of the top 4 NL teams are from the NL Central division. Macholm is seriously not happy with run support. Nearly similar ERA to Duke and Karstern, yet a worse W/L.

Pittsburgh Pirates(34-25) @ Philledelphia Phillies(22-37)

After taking 2 of 3 from the Braves to start the month, homers were able to take down the Pirates in Citizen Bank Park. The score was 0-0 until Pedro Feliz started the scoring with a solo shot in the 5th but Jamie Moyer was excellent having a no-hitter through the 1st 4 1/3 innings but handed the ball to the bullpen that struggled and the Bucs were able to get 2 in the 8th from a Lasting Milledge homerun. Pignattiello struggled mightily for the 1st time and gave up 3 homeruns in the 8th to make it 7-2. But Brad Lidge, who came into the game in the 8th to get the last out, gave up a 2 out, 3-run pinch hit homerun to Travis Buck to make it a 2 run game but he would get Andy LaRoche to fly out to end it, as for LaRoche, he is now hitting .199.

Major League Baseball Draft 2009

The Pirates selected 5th in this years draft and had great picks. The 1st pick was a Japanese power hitting, Susumu Ikari who has great power and is a righty third basemen, he is 23 years old. The 2nd pick was a young right-handed pitcher named Glanville. He is 23 years old and has some good breaking balls. Ikari can join the team some time this month possibly.

Pittsburgh Pirates(36-26) @ Boston Red Sox(26-36)

Today marked two things, first it was the 1st day of interleague play which is the first day of using a DH, it was also the 1st time that Jason Bay has played his former team. It started well for the Pirates as Jones had a sac fly in the 1st to make it 1-0 Pittsburgh but the Red Sox would come back fast with a 2-run homerun from Kevin Youkilis and the BoSox scored 6 early runs off of struggling Kevin Hart. Lester was great tonite firing a complete game and only giving up one run en route to an underachieving Red Sox team with the win.

Pirates aquire Amezaga from Fish

Today the Pirates have aquired switch hitting utiliyman Alfredo Amezaga from the Marlins for last years draft pick 3B Dransfeld and RHP Ross Ohlendorf. Ohlendorf was a suprise member of this deal but he had an ERA of 9 in 2009 and struggled as a starter last year. Amezaga has hit 6 homeruns in his 2009 season with the Pirates and is a much needed infield/outfielder that the Pirates have needed. 1B/CF Jeff Salazar has been sent down to AAA, he hit .294 with 0 homeruns this season.
